Gaye Arline Pesout

Gaye Burtner Pesout, West Haven

My beautiful wife Gaye passed away May 18, 2010 of Kidney Cancer. She fought with everything she had until the end.

Gaye was born Dec. 23, 1946. She was raised in St. Louis, MO and graduated from Cleveland High School . She then attended Southeast Missouri State University where she graduated with honors with a B.A. in Education. Gaye married Robert Pesout in August 1967 and followed him to Utah as he served in the U.S. Army.

Gaye loved teaching and taught over 43 years at Tooele Elementary, Hooper Elementary and Kanesville Elementary. She never seemed to get out of the 3rd grade. She served as Weber Education Association President and was a long time W.E.A. Rep. Gaye received her Master’s Degree from Utah State.

Gaye was a talented artist. She had a great time painting animals on River-Rocks. Her art work has reached many states.

Gaye loved volunteering at the Dinosaur Lab at Ogden’s Dinosaur Park. She also worked on the upkeep of the exhibits at the park. Gaye also volunteered at the Museum of Natural History at the University of Utah. She was a member of the Utah Friends of Paleontology where she had many dear and close friends.

Gaye is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 43 years, Robert. Also surviving are her mother Rosemarie and Dad Vernon of Marionville, MO, Brother Tim and wife Merry of St. Joseph, MO and sisters Joy and Susan of St. Louis, MO.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Leavitt’s Aultorest Memorial Park 836 36th St. Ogden, UT. Friends and family may call from 6-8p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2010 and one hour prior to the service at the mortuary.

I was shocked to hear of gaye's passing. she was so full of life. Gaye was an important part of my years of working with the Weber Education. She was bright and always friendly. She worked constantly for the best for teachers. I'm sure she worked as hard and as well with her own students. She will be missed. I hope you find some solace in the knowledge that she lived life well and to its fullest.

This sad message came to me so unexpected and I still find it hard to belief. Memories of Gaye are fond and many and I always enjoyed her companionship and friendship; in the lab, with the paleo training weekends, and in the field. Thank you for everything and being who you were. Your optimism and bright smile will be missed!

Spending time chatting with Gaye in the dinosaur prep lab has always been one of my favorite ways to spend some time! Gaye was a wonderful, caring person and her untimely passing struck me like a blow. Gaye was a teacher to the end; she loved sharing her knowledge of dinosaurs with anyone who came into the prep lab and I often observed many happy children clustered around her! I am proud to call Gaye my friend and am deeply saddened by her loss. She will be missed by all.

Yes she did love those 3rd grade kids, her stories were great and funny, She also love working on dinosaurs bones with all of us bone nuts. She will be missed by all and especially by me. I loved Gay and she was a great soul.

I would like to express my condolences to the family of Gaye Pesout. She was my third-grade teacher and by far one of the greatest people I've ever met. I will always remember Mrs. Pesout as the person who inspired me to want to become a teacher when I grow up. She was an incredible person and she truly changed my life. Words cannot express the sadness I felt when I heard what had happened; but at the same time, words can not express the gratitude I feel for being fortunate enough to have had such a wonderful person in my life. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Tess Shephard (West Haven, Utah)

Gaye will be missed by all of us who had the wonderful pleasure to work with he as we learned more about Utah's past. She was always doing the extra things that needed doing with a smile that brought more people to help out, because people liked being around Gaye, she gave us all a bit more spring to our step. I wish we could have shared her spirit longer, but we all are a bit better for having known her.

Jim Kirkland (Magna, Utah)

Gaye is the epitome of the kind of person our world needs. She made paleontology a better experience for me.We are all richer for having known her.

We are so grateful for the time and energy and enthusiasm Gaye brought to the natural history museum. The museum is certainly a better place for her contributions.

Your wife was a wonderful woman who touched countless lives through her service to our children. I truly enjoyed getting to know her as we worked on boxtops for the school together. Based on her advice, we enjoyed a great trip to the dinosaur quarry with our children last summer. Please accept my condolences as you are missing her.

We are so sad to hear about Gaye's death. We missed the last two UFOP meetings and hadn't heard she was so ill so we were very surprised. She was a wonderful, fun and upbeat person who added a lot to the UFOP group. She will be greatly missed. I'm so sorry for your loss. Margaret & Paul Smith

I was lucky enought to have Gaye as my 3rd grade teacher at Hooper Elementary. I'll always remember what a kind and talented teacher she was. She was always so good with all the kids.

Gaye was my cousin, and although I had not seen her in quite some time, I always remembered Gaye to be so kind and sweet. I am very sad that she has passed away. I send my deepest sympathy and thoughts to Bob, Tim, Sue and Joy. I am also so very sad for Auntie and Uncle Vernon who have to cope with this loss from so far away. We are planning another visit to them very soon. I am praying that each of you hold onto the memories and take comfort that Gaye is pain-free now. Love you all, Maria

Bob,

I am very sorry for your loss. I still have the pictures of you and Gaye in my photo album of the trip we took out to your ranch in Utah and went fishing...and you and dad were breaking in a horse. Good memories from the '70's

Please take care of yourself.

Gaye was a much loved cousin and her smile, kindness and vivacious spirit will remain with us forever. I cherish the memories of the fun times we had together over the years - in Utah, CA. and PA. So many laughs and we always looked forward to the great stories. Gaye will be greatly missed by so many - we were so blessed to have her in our lives.

Gaye was my aunt. I will miss her very much. My prayers go out to Bob for his lost as well as the rest of the family. I was not as close to Gaye as I would have liked to be, but she always very sweet to everyone she met. I will always remember one of best vacations I had, when we visited her when I was younger. Riding horses and playing hockey on the floor gym. She will be missed, but I know that she is in a better place.

Dear Bob, I guess my name is coming out of nowhere, since I haven't seen you or Gaye since high school. But I am so distressed to hear about Gaye that I just had to write. She was a loving and caring person that I have and always will remember. Please accept my most sincere sympathy for your loss, and remember she is in a good place and is at peace. My best to you and your entire family.

Dear Mr. Pesout,

I am so sorry that your wife and my teacher passed away. I was in her class this year and I will miss her, she was a great teacher. My favorite thing about Mrs Pesout was that she painted animals on river rocks.

Love,

Gabriella

Gaye was one of the most skilled fossil preparators I've had the pleasure to work with. she was extremely dedicated right to the end and came in regularly to continue working on specimens in our lab. While she will be very sorely missed by all of us, her memory will live on in all of the fossil specimens she so lovingly prepared. We all miss you very much Gaye.

Mike Getty (Salt Lake City, UT)

Dear Mr. Pesout, Mrs. Pesout made everything fun in science. That was my favorite subject this year. She was such a fabulous teacher. I am sorry that she had to pass away. I miss her.

Madalyn DeGarlais (West Haven, Utah)

I miss Mrs. Pesout, she was my favorite teacher and made my least favorite subject the best. One day she brought her dinosaur fossils to school and when my buddy Rock Mecham came up to look, there was some prehistoric poop, and he said," This is poop from a Tyrannosaurus Rex! I know my crap!". Mrs. Pesout let us have fun and that's why we learned so much. That is my best memory from school and from Mrs. Pesout. I miss her a lot. We wish you didn't have to be with out her and we've been praying for you.

Isaac DeGarlais (west haven, utah)

I remember Isaac Degarlis's story. I was in the same class as him. She was the best teacher ever. I am so sorry about this. I pray for you. I was her best student. She always would play with the children. I loved Mrs.Pesout. She is in a better place now. I miss her and hope there will be someone like her in years to come. I am in going in 7th grade now. I hope you have a great summer. Sincerely, Brandon Lopez 5-28-10
