Dr. Norman Brown Giles passed away at home on June 13th, 2010 due to heart failure at the age of 78. Norman was born January 17th, 1932 to Elmer “Tug” and Ruth Brown Giles in Ogden, UT. He graduated from Ogden High School and attended University of Utah. He entered dental school at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL where he met his wife Dorothy. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple, during his last year in dental school. They have been married for 53 years.
After dental school, Norman took a year dental internship at the Oak Knoll Naval Hospital then 2 years service aboard on the USS Ranger as a general dentist serving aboard ship as a group leader for the LDS church. He returned to school at the University of Iowa where he received his MS in Orthodontics and thereafter practiced orthodontics in Ogden for 40 years. He took extensive continuing education in orthodontics and TMJ pain relief.
He strived to be punctual, honest, and live a life of service. He was a kind, thoughtful, quiet man, an avid reader, and student of the scriptures. He was a good listener and never had to talk much with 6 girls in the family. Norman remained very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, enjoying serving the Lord in many positions; many still call him Bishop.
He is a loving husband, father of 6 daughters, grandfather to 21, and great grandfather to 3. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Ernest Newey; brother Robert and daughter Ruth (Chloe). Surviving family include his wife Dorothy, daughters, Beth (Pedro) Villatoro of TX; Karen (Baron) Harrell of CA; Lisa (Todd) Mikesell of UT; Jan (Dave) Johnston of UT; and Mary (Andy) Goodale of OR.
The family is grateful for the service rendered by Dr. Biddulph, Brittany, Mike, Father Phil and others from Advocate Hospice.
The Viewing will be held at Leavitt’s Mortuary 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah, on Wednesday, June 16th from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services. Norman Giles is my wife, Ruth's, Uncle.
I appreciated and love this quiet, steadfast and strong man who gave so much of himself to his wonderful wife, Dorothy, and to his family, friends and loved ones.
I thank God that I knew such a delightful man and that my own walk in life is made easier because of him.
May God's blessings rest on Dot and her delightful family in this time of farewell.

Dr Giles was my orthodontist back in the mid 1960's. My dentist here in WA has always admired the perfection of my bite! I have thought of him often over the years and thank him for providing me with a beautiful smile... May your family remember his smile, which will lighten every day! Blessings,
Karin Leslie (Sumner , WA)
Dear Dorothy, We just read about Norm's passing. How sorry we are. We have loved getting to know Norm & you throughout the years. Norm was always ready to lend a hand or an ear. His quiet manner always made any situation calm. We have missed seeing the two of you since we have moved to Alaska. We were hoping that you both could have come up North to visit us. You are in our thoughts & prayers. Love, Jon & Ann Jensen
