Albert Blen Smith, 67 passed away in Layton, Utah on Saturday September 7th, 2013. Blen fought a courageous battle against cancer for almost 10 years.Blen was born January 7, 1946 to Vern M. and Elaine Alsop Smith in Brigham City, Utah.
As a toddler, his family moved to Clearfield. Blen grew up with his older sister and two younger brothers. Through his teenage years, Blen excelled in scouting and earned his eagle scout award. Also, a great Skier and a popular student, graduating from Clearfield High in 1964.
At an early age, Blen began his family and a career. He married Carol Ann Nalder and began selling insurance in Clearfield. They later divorced, but their bond remained strong until the end.
Blen and Carol had two daughters, Elyse and Stacey. Elyse is married and resides in St. George with her husband Bill and her daughter Bailey who is teaching school lives very near to them.
Stacey lives in West Point with her Husband and two daughters Tatum and Sydney. He loved his girls and his grandkids with all his heart and soul. Blen served his country by joining the Utah National Guard and proudly gave his time and efforts. There were few things that hindered Blen’s enjoyment of life.
Along with his love of family, friends and business associates, he was crazy about sports. Being an avid Utah Jazz and NY Yankee fan.
After years of working in the family business at Vern M. Smith Insurance, He opened his own agency named Blen Smith Insurance. He operated in Clearfield for over 30 years until recently selling in 2010. His daughter Stacey working along his side for many of these years.
Blen also enjoyed many friends and loyal customers throughout his years. A selfless person: thought entirely of others and always careful not to hurt the ones he cared about.
If Blen possessed a fault at all: it was that he could not say “no”. He had an open-door policy to those in need, and at times his generosity was overwhelming. He will be sorely missed and will be a blessing wherever his passing takes him. His father Vern: whom Blen shared many common feelings, preceded him to the hereafter in 2000′.
Surviving are his two daughters Elyse Groves (Bill) and Stacey Garr (Tony). Three grandchildren: Bailey, Tatum and Sydney. Also surviving are his mother Elaine Smith whose mutual love will remain eternal. Grieving siblings: Stephanie Broschinsky (Charles), Roger Smith and Gary Smith will also feel a deep loss.
A better person could not be found. Always there to help and comfort, his kindness and humor was always unconditionally given.
