UINTAH Alex McNair, age 94+ years, passed away on August 7, 2015 with his wife and son, Robert, by his side. He was born on February 7, 1921 in Motherwell, Scotland to John and Barbara Sneddon McNair.
Alex joined the British war effort by enlisting in the Royal Air Force (RAF) in January, 1941. He was stationed in Scotland, England, Germany and Belgium during World War II. He was awarded the France and German Star and Defense Medal. Alex was honorably discharged from the RAF in September, 1946 with the rank of LAC (Leading Aircraftman).
While stationed at an air field near Wolverhampton, England, he met and married Violet (Vi) Lloyd on June 7, 1944, the day after D-Day. They recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. Alex and Vi immigrated to Ogden in 1955 with their two sons. He lived here for the rest of his life.
Alex is survived by his wife, Vi (age91); two sons, Al McNair of Tucson, Arizona and Robert (Claudia) McNair of Uintah Highlands; four grandchildren, Steven (DeAnn) McNair of Hooper, Shannon (David) House of Hooper, Matthew (Ashley) McNair of Arlington, and Kristen McNair Hopper of Boise, Idaho; five great-granddaughters, three great-grandsons, and two great-great granddaughters.
He is preceded in death by his parents; great aunt, Margaret Sneddon, and two siblings, older brother John McNair, and younger brother Robert McNair As per Alex’ request, there will be no funeral service.
The family thanks those individuals at Ogden Regional Medical Center, Stonehenge of Ogden, and AFI Advanced Care for their care and assistance in Alex’ final days.
