Casey Gridley Shorten

February 26, 1950 - June 9, 2016

Casey Gridley Shorten, aged 66, peacefully passed away at home on June 9, 2016 surrounded by his family.  He was born on February 26, 1950 to Ralph and Helen Shorten in Ogden, Utah.  Casey graduated from Ogden High School in 1969 and remained life-long friends with many classmates.  He married the love of his life Annagay on February 29, 1992.

He was a decorated officer for the Ogden Police Department for over 21 years.  He spent many years working with at-risk youth coaching amateur boxing.  He lived life to the fullest; he enjoyed traveling, glamping, golfing, skiing, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.  He loved all animals and most of all his dogs Doogie and Bowser.  He added a touch of humor to all aspects of life.

He is survived by his mother Helen Shorten; his wife Annagay Shorten; his children Traci (Darren) DeGraw, Cami (Rene) Myers, DiAnna (Michael) DeGroot, Kyle (Chessa) Shorten, Jamee (Shane) Pew, Mindi (Matthew) Hix, Michael (Genevieve) Shorten, Chase Winsor; and 16 grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his father Ralph Shorten.

He touched the lives of all who knew him.  We would like to extend heartfelt thanks to his long-time friends who loved him and showed so much support through this difficult time.

To Casey's family, He was the highlight of going to Ben Lomond High School. He had a passion for helping the youth and it was evident in the way he treated us! I have the greatest amount of respect and admiration for him. He is a champion!!

I was so sad and shocked to hear that Casey had passed away. Prayers for the family and all who loved him. He and AnnaGay are the nicest people I have ever met. Always more than willing to help anyone in need. Casey and I were Real Estate Partners. Never once did he say he couldn't sit at an open house when I asked. He was there whenever I needed him just as AnnaGay was. Truly genuine, real people with only goodness in their hearts. Love you AnnaGay. Sorry I didn't make it to the services. I just found out about his passing today but I'm here for you now and when/if you need anything at all. Barbara Ann Schaffers (Cordingly) to you guys.

I was sadden to read of the passing of Casey. I guess we go back to the days when we both worked at Harmon's I on the night crew and Casey as sercurity. Casey was very well liked and did a great job. Later as I ran for city council in South Ogden he was one of the first that put a sign in his yard for me. I'm sorry for you loss. May God be with You Until we Meet Again.

I am so sad to hear of Casey's passing. I have known Casey since we were teenagers at OHS. I was also fortunate to work closely with him while he was at OPD. At the time, I was a city prosecutor then a county prosecutor. He always brought that genuine smile, charm and friendly manner to his duties. He was always professional and diligent at his work. He will be greatly missed! May your grief be short and your happy memories be long. Mark DeCaria

Officer Shorten was always so kind to me in Jr high school, I remember going to Opd to see him, me and my friend would ride the bus we'd make a special trip just to go and say hi. I've missed him through the years, and I NEVER EVER FORGOT HIM. God speed officer Shorten.
