Donnell Norris Hartog

October 4, 1923 - June 22, 2015

Donnell Norris Hartog, 91, passed away June 22, 2015.  She was born October 4, 1923 to Charles H. and Nell Robison Norris in Ogden, Utah.  Donnell graduated in 1941 from Ogden High School.  She married James C. Hartog on July 10, 1942.

Donnell worked at Shupe Williams Candy Company.  She was a wonderful seamstress and worked for L.R. Samuels and Bon Marche doing alterations.  She was one with nature and loved the beauty of a sunset, a special rock, a special shell or a crystal.  We all learned the names of every wild flower and bird.  She was a joy to walk with on a mountain trail.  She truly stopped and “smelled the roses” along the way.  Donnell was president of Beta Zeta Tau Social Club at Ogden High School.  Donnell and Jim helped chair all the class of 1941 reunions.  She was a charter member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Karen, Dale, and Craig wish to thank Janet and Gaylen for caring for her in their name.

The family wishes to thank Dr. J. David Schmitz, Community Nursing Services and Hospice.  They would also like to thank her many friends and neighbors throughout the years, especially her neighbor of 65 years, Melva Blair.

Donnell is survived by Karen (Art) Pizzirani, Dale (Adrienne) Hartog, Janet (Gaylen) Chapman, Craig Hartog; and sister, Colleen Marble; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; son; Brent J. Hartog; brother, Clyde Norris; sister, Gretta Sparks; and granddaughter, Kelli Ann Hartog.

Funeral Services will be held at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 140 North Tyler Avenue, Ogden, Utah June 27, 2015 at 11:00 am.  Family will greet friends prior to services from 10:00 to 10:45 am.

Dear Hartog Family, I am very sorry for the loss of your mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. The Casey Family was very fortunate to get to spend time with Donnell, as she was dear friends with my Gramps-Wayne Casey. Donnell was a beautiful person. We always talked about what a beautiful and classy woman she was, but she was just as gorgeous on the inside as she was on the outside. Watching Gramps and Donnell together was the cutest! They were great friends and truly loved and cared for each other. I was fortunate enough to go on a little road trip with Donnell and my grandpa to visit family in Boise. We had an absolute blast! Donnell was always up for a great time. We shared a lot of laughs on that trip. I always complimented her on her beautiful jewelry and I loved hearing the explanation of what type of stone or gem it was. Listening to her speak was so soothing. Her soft and sweet voice was always a comfort and something I loved hearing. Donnell had a gift of seeing good in people. She was a great example of love. I want to thank you for sharing her with the Casey's. She became part of our family and so did you. Janet and Karen, I love you both! Thank you for keeping me in the loop and sharing your sweet mom with me.
