Douglas Hyrum Dieu

May 15, 1934 - September 29, 2016

I, Douglas Hyrum Dieu of South Ogden, returned to my Father in Heaven on September 29, 2016, at the age of 82.

I was born on May 15, 1934 in Ogden, Utah to Gabriel and Ivy Williams Dieu.  My older brothers Donald and Vernon, and my little sister Margaret completed my family.

I graduated from Ogden High, Weber State and BYU.  I attended Juilliard School and NYU where I earned my MBA.

While I was in NYC I had the opportunity to work with many celebrities of stage and screen.  I even played at Radio City Music Hall.  I also worked at Lord and Taylor’s.  I learned the most while serving an LDS mission in Minnesota.  I served in many callings in the church and was the ward organist for over 64 years.

I was employed for 13 years at Allied Stores Corporation as a manager of Bon Marche in Ogden, followed by 30 years at Weber County in Personnel and Payroll.

I loved sharing my talents volunteering hundreds of hours playing organ for weddings, funerals, and special events.

I loved working in my garden, boating, and traveling.  I especially loved the Tetons.  My Lord and my family are most important to me and I loved my nieces and nephews, Larry Coxey (Sirkka), Mike Evans (Myra), Kathy (Kitty) Killian (Brad), Annette Evans-McPartland (Tom), I adored my great nieces and nephews.  I was also a loving father to my foster sons, Jason Filban, Phillip Laterza (Wendy), Dean Laterza (Kim) and Jon Dieu.

I lived my life for the Savior and am happy to return to him and my parents, siblings, nephew, Larry, son, Jon and Grandson, Judd who will greet me in Heaven.

Condolences for Douglas Hyrum Dieu

My heart is so saddened as I just found out about Doug's passing and too late to attend his viewing and funeral. I worked with Doug at Weber County for many years. He was my confidant, cheerleader, mentor and most of all dear friend. He took such great care of his brother and sister and I so admired him for his tender heart for family. He treated those he met as his family and I am proud to be included in his circle. I will cherish the luncheons and dinner parties that we all had. I especially remember the cabin dinners and the Doggy birthday party with my young son Traviss who provided the extra entertainment with his sans pull up streaker night swim. Even when he didn't want to go out in public due to his frail state, he had promised our Dear Velma that he would play at her funeral and did a wonderful job. I so enjoyed his musical talent where he could play anything. Our visit to the Organ Loft was also one of my favorite memories. Please accept my condolences and know that my thoughts of comfort are sent your way.

It is with sadness that I saw that Doug has passed away. I worked with Doug for over 30 years and want his family to know that it was always a great pleasure to be associated with him. He was a very kind and gentle person who always was concerned for his fellow employees. He so talented. I enjoyed listening to him play the organ many times at the theater. He may be gone from his from us here on earth but not forgotten in our minds..

I spent some time with Douglas at the Bon Marche. I considered him my friend and I hope he thought of me the same way. I know that Heavenly Father will greet you with open arms when you get there. May He be there for your family at this time. My sincere condolences, Jim Stegen.

So sad to hear of Doug's passing. He was a great friend and we shared some great times, Dean and I on his boat fishing, water skiing and just riding around rain or shine.
