Duane Chris Jensen

July 11, 1941 - December 19, 2016

North Ogden – Duane Chris Jensen, 75, passed away December 19, 2016 in his home.  Dad was born July 11, 1941 in Ogden, Utah to Duane Alexander Jensen and Adele McFarlane.

Chris served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Australia from 1960 to 1962.  He was part of the first group of 19 year old missionaries the church sent out.  He served in many remote areas.  He loved the Outback and felt at home there.

Upon Duane’s return from his mission, he met and married his sweetheart, Karla Garner of North Ogden.  They married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 6, 1963.  Together they raised four children.  Mom and Dad lived in South Ogden, Roy, Hooper, Kernersville, North Carolina and North Ogden.  In their later years Mom and Dad loved to travel, visiting Europe, South America, Mexico and Hawaii several times as well as cruising the Western Caribbean.

Chris attended Weber State University and the University of Virginia.  He was a graduate of the U.S. Army Logistic Management Center at Ft. Lee, Virginia as well as the Air Force Institute of Technology in Dayton, Ohio.

Chris was a Contract Negotiator and Contracting Officer for USAF for many years and was a Senior Buyer, Purchasing Manager, Corporate Director of Purchasing and Director of Material Management for a variety of large and mid-size companies.  He traveled all over the world, including South America, Scandinavia, Europe, Japan, China, Taiwan, South Pacific Islands, Canada, Mexico and almost every state.  He was a computer addict and was known as a guru of systems development.  He retired in 2006.

Chris was a gourmet cook and loved to share his recipes from all over the world with family and friends.  He was an accomplished pianist, Native American flute player, poet, climber, photographer, outdoorsman and fly fisherman.  He particularly loved the desert around Moab and the primitive alpine areas of Wyoming, Utah, Idaho and Montana.  His family was the most important thing in his life.  He loved to go camping with the entire tribe.

Chris was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in a variety of positions.  He was most known for being a Gospel Doctrine teacher.  He loved sharing the gospel with friends and family.  He was a High Priest and served as a teacher, stake athletic director, counselor in a stake mission presidency and temple ordinance worker.

Chris is survived by his eternal companion, Karla; two daughters, Lisa (Cameron) Allen, Amy Jensen; two sons, Matthew and Andrew (Jennifer); grandchildren, Joshua, Camille and Samantha Allen; Alex, Nichole and Melanie Jensen; Jaiden, Sienna (Jason) Chan, Sage and Gunnar Thornock; Max, Oscar and Henry Jensen.  Chris loved supporting his grandchildren in many athletic and theatrical events.

I was also very surprised to read of Chris's death. I went to school with him and have great memories of those times. He was always so positive and upbeat and we all enjoyed being around Chris. He was so great to organize reunions and keep us all together. He will be missed. So sorry for you and your family's loss.

Very sad news. Great memories of being pals and classmates. Sending our condolences to his kids and grand kids and especially Karla. He always took the time to say hi and communicate. His love and pride of his Danish heritage was remarkable. We'll miss hearing his comments on FB and the occasional call or email to talk about mutual thoughts and ideas regarding good ol' Weber and everything in between! His comments to me just last week regarding the "Utah Tribes" photography exhibition: "Thanks Paul...I had seen some of these but not all. With all my travels from Park Valley to Four Corners and from High Uintas to Ute Ouray These photos bring to mind the courage, creativity, inventiveness and value of these cultures."
