I first met my Irene 74 years ago and fell in love with her. She had a way with me that brought out the best in me and somehow managed to ignore the worst in me! We shared quite a burden of troubles and challenges together. And we exulted in the blessings we enjoyed together. She endured four births and raised our children perfectly. She taught them; she disciplined them; she earned their and my deepest respect and never failed to amaze us all with her spiritual vigor and faithfulness. She served her God by serving her fellowmen. She fulfilled her Patriarchal Blessing in every instance. I could go on for hours citing her qualities but must end by saying I will be forever grateful for being led to her presence back in 1938 in the little Chapel on Gibbon Street, Brisbane. In every way she was a true Saint.

Our hearts go out to Irene's family. She was an amazing woman and example to everyone she met. My very first memory of Irene happened in Relief Society. I was new to the ward and sat on the back row next to this sweet lady. She welcomed me with open arms but the moment I heard her sing our opening song I KNEW I'd like her forever. She loved singing any hymn and would belt it out. I'm sure when her hearing was better she could sing right along with the music but at this time she would sing it loud, proud, off key and in her own time. I loved her so much! My children also loved getting hugs from her everytime they talked to her. We would come over every halloween to show off our costumes. Irene & Alex would have a goodie bag for each one of my kids plus one for me. They took pictures and we would visit with them before heading out to go trick or treating. They were always our first stop. The love that Alex & Irene has for each other is one I would describe in a fairytale. They were inseperable. They talked about each other as if they had just gotten married and were still soooo much in love. My husband & I would watch them and always say to each other, "That's what we want to be when we grow up." Thank you so much for your wonderful examples to me & my familyMuch Love,Norm & Daniele Longhurst Family
