He loved to golf, read, travel, and ski.  Jim loved to spend time with the grandchildren and took them many places, including Mexico, Disneyland, Alaska, the Oregon coast, and California forests.  The living room of his home with Carol was designated as the “reading room” by the grandchildren, and Jim spent many hours reading to each of them.  He loved his grandchildren dearly, and they loved to visit and have sleepovers at grandma and grandpa’s house.

Hi Carol, Haven't seen you for many years, but always remember our time together at WSU. Arlene and I have been in touch and I sent her Leola's obituary and she mentioned you and then I saw your husband's obituary. I'm so very sorry for your loss and my thoughts are with you. Shannon

Dear Carol, Chris, and family, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband and step-father. He was obviously a devoted family man, a kind soul, and a upstanding member of his community and faith. I cannot imagine the deep loss you must feel. I do hope, however, that your family and your many years of memories will comfort and sustain you in your grief. With sincere condolences, Richard Holden
