John Stoker-Davis Porter

March 21, 1984 - July 6, 2011

John Stoker-Davis Porter returned to his Heavenly Father on July 6, 2011. During John’s lifetime his love of life and compassion for his fellow man touched the hearts of all he met. He was born on March 21, 1984, in Fresno, California, son of James William and Lori Alaine Abbott Porter. He was a 2002 graduate of Northridge High School in Layton, earned his associates degree at Weber State University, and completed additional military training and education with honors. After carefully considering all the branches of military, John enlisted in the Air Force Reserves in October 2005. He served his country honorably and was determined to go the extra mile for the US Air Force each day. He married his High School sweetheart Kelly Marie Wainscott Porter in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on May 5, 2007 where they were sealed for time and all eternity. He was a loving and dedicated husband. He had the privilege of spending ten tender years with Kelly on this earth. John was an active member of the LDS church and served a mission in Utica, New York. He played football in High School, participated in theater and was a gifted artist and craftsman. John enjoyed being physically fit and was an avid outdoorsman who had a passion for guns and target shooting. He possessed a rare quality of bringing a smile to everyone’s face; he loved, and looked after everyone. John had a love of life, took on every challenge head first, followed his own strong sense of honor, was very outgoing and engaging, curious about life, had a wry sense of humor, was loved by everyone around him, and enjoyed his life to the fullest. He was truly in a category unto himself.John is survived by his wife, Kelly Porter, parents: Bill and Lori Porter, Porter, his grandfather, Tom Porter, siblings: James Bryan “JB” (Melanie Ann) Porter, Amanda Kaye Porter (Russell John) Reeder, Emily Sara Porter and Rachel Anne Porter, his adoring nieces Sarah Alaine Porter and Katelyn Elizabeth Reeder, and a large extended family. I knew during the few months we ran a CrossFit program here at Hill. During that time I came to know John as a man of strength and integrity. He had a kindness that came through even as he was yelling at you to run faster. Even afterward that when I saw him at the gym he would constantly have a smile on his face. I'm not sure I ever saw him not happy. He always had a good word and a smile. I believe we have truely lost one of our best, my heart goes out to his family and friends.Sincerely,Casey Roberts

I have a lot of memories of JOhnfrom my senior and only year in Northridge. Before I stepped foot in a class I stepped foot on the football field with him. He helped me a lot that year. With the rides to school, racquetball, introducing me around and getting me involved. I honestly don't thing I could have made it that year with out him. He'll be missed.

I never had the chance to meet Ssgt Porter, but I must share my sympathies with you, my son is Airman goodnight and for the last several months I have heard so much about Ssgt Porter, your husband and son and brother took my child under his wing, he nurtured him,he taught him, he helped him, my son looked forward to going to the gym with Ssgt Porter, and just went to lunch with him on tuesday, I wish now I would have taken the chance to thank him for all the help he has been with Josh, and for helping Josh get ready for his deployment and I could have thanked him when he was at our home on tuesday but I didnt take that chance. I would like to thank you for sharing your husband and son and brother and let you know from a perfect stranger, the impact Ssgt Porter has had on my child and his life. I wish the best for family, I know families are forever, I hope you will have comfort in this time of loss. I dont know any of you but I have grown to love you just from the person that Ssgt Porter is, and the time he took to befreind a young airman.Love The Lindsay's

I can't think of what to say, I turned 27 right after I finally got married and a whole new life for me began. Now a whole new life begins for John. I hope he is asking all the questions I just can't figure out and hugging and holding all the people in his arms that I wish I could. I have two sons of my own now and I can't even begin to imagine the difficulty of not seeing them again. My heart, tears and prayers go out to you and I wish I could be there to support in some way during this painful time. I know you are surrounded by love and even small blessings and miracles. I hope that time will go quickly and heal the pain. With all my love, Tina

Bill, Lori & family and Kelly - you guys know that I've always considered your family to be my family after all of these years. You are such goo and kind people and it's always been a wonderful experience whenever I get to talk with "My Porter Family" (as I refer to you always)! John was such a good kid and was always so positive and fun to talk to. He always made everyone laugh and I always felt happier after having talked with him. Although I never had met Kelly, I can imagine how amazing she is. My heart has been so sad these past few days and although I know this isn't the end - he just had so much living left to do. I feel so fortunate to have known your family and grown close to you guys. My families thoughts and prayers are for each of you.

Dearest Porter family,Only those who have experienced a farewell such as this can come close to knowing the tender feelings of your grief. But for those of us who love you with all our hearts, compassion bridges the gulf and we stand beside you in mourning the loss of his light in your lives. During this sweet time of remembrance, we gratefully celebrate the life of John Porter."Why seek ye the living among the dead?"---Luke 24:5 "Why are you sad? I was John's Admin for over 5 years, loved to hear his stories.... my favorite one was when he couldn't be any happier when Kelly his wife said yes to his proposal. The entire reserve weekend that is the only thing he could talk about.... "Yeah let's talk about work... but did you know she said yes...." He always made us laugh, Goofy, happy but always giving his best, always good at everything... always made us proud, we called him our Capt America for being who he has always been.... he will be greatly missed.... but never forgotten.....My prayers goes to you and your family... Thank you for sharing John with us.. without your support we would have never met him.God BlessCorina and Shon Porter

Our thoughts are with you at this time of profound sorrow. Be assured that your tears are not unnoticed by the Creator of life. Although your deep pain will not easily disappear, praying to God will bring comfort to you as you grieve. We knew John from working with him at Hill. I worked with him while interning there and Eric knew him when John would pick up vehicles for Drill weekends.(Eric worked in vehicle ops) Mostly we knew him from the Fitness Center and he always had a smile on his face and loved to joke around. Never saw him upset. You couldn't help but smile when he was around. His presence will dearly missed.
