June Heslop Cobabe

June 12, 1917 - November 6, 2011

Our loving mother, grandmother, and wife, June Heslop Cobabe, 94, peacefully passed away at her home in Eden, Utah, November 6, 2011. June was born June 12, 1917 to William Henry Heslop and Icivinda Taylor Heslop in Plain City, Utah. June graduated from Weber County High School with high honors and from Ogden Beauty School with honors. She married Alvin Fred Cobabe on November 10, 1937, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were celebrating their 74 years together. We will miss her greatly. June had many interests, but her family and church always came first. June was proud to be a beautician and her friends and family benefited from her skills. She was a wonderful homemaker, enjoyed cooking, sewing, and raising four daughters. She was an award winning quilter and she crocheted dozens of afghans that she shared with family and friends. June and Dr. Cobabe loved traveling and June was the navigator as Dr. Cobabe flew them in their own plane around the United States. She supported her husband in his many endeavors. She helped with company bookkeeping, medical school, and with his medical practice. She helped to develop and was co-owner of Powder Mountain Ski Resort. Many of her days were spent making scones and soups at the ski resort. When she wasn’t working, she loved to watch the skiers and to get to know the guests. She loved being active in the LDS church and served in many positions during her life, including being the President of the Utah Deaf School Primary. She received an award for her 15 years of service. June is survived by her husband Alvin Fred Cobabe, M.D., daughters: Gayla (Wayne) Folkman, St. George, Utah, Shawna (Clair) Van Meeteren, Eden, Utah, and Aleta (Marc) Paulsen, Eden, Utah. 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 18 step great grandchildren, and 11 step great/great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Weldon and Lamont Heslop, daughter Carolyn Lowther, granddaughter Yvonne Lowther and grandson Adam Kash Van Meeteren. June was a great counselor to me in R.S. and she was also a fun friend. I loved our discussions about quilting and enjoyed looking at her handiwork. She tried to show how to finish my quilt and even offered to help sew it. I should have taken her up on it since it isn't finished to this day. We went up to Powder Mountain together and she told about how that ski resort got started and how she loved supporting her husband Alvin. I enjoyed our times together visiting the sisters in the ward. Mostly I enjoyed her humble sweet spirit and testimony of the gospel. She and Alvin were those "salt of the earth" kind of people who I love.

My condolences go out to your family. I remember the old days when my parents and we children would do activities with your family. It was an especially enjoyable time for my mom, because she considered June one of her best friends and favorite cousin. June was a happy, enjoyable person to be around, and she enjoyed laughing. Please know that I care, and I know that she will be here for you in comfortant and pain, as well as in helping you get over the rough spots when you ask her. She cares for you all. I know she had a joyful reunion in heaven with those who went ahead of her, and she is waiting for the time when you'll all be together again. Were you aware that my sister, Carolena, passed away of cancer a little over two years ago? My sympathy to you all,Leola

Dear Aleta and Marc,I am so to hear about your loss. I am sure that living close to your parents in Eden was a great comfort to both your mom and dad. No matter what a long life your mother had, it is still difficult to come to terms with a loved one's passing. I will be out of town on Saturday, or else I would be there for you at your mother's service. You have been a great friend over the years and I hope we can continue to be so. Please give my best regards to your father and other family members. Sincerely, Steven Boyington

April and I express our sincere condolences at the passing of Aunt June. She was always a joy to be around and I have fond memories of her from my youth. I especially remember when she gave me chicken soup when I was sick with a bad cold. She was always thinking of others. We wish Heavenly Father's blessings on all at this time of reflextion and sorrow. May God bless with comfort and understanding and may we always remember the great contribution Aunt June made to all our lives.
