Kelly Paul Newton
March 15, 1952 ~ September 12, 2014

Kelly Paul Newton, age 62, passed away Friday, September 12, 2014 after a brief illness. He was born March 15, 1952 to Ian and Elaine Newton in Ogden, Utah. He graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1970 and attended Weber State College. Kelly and Maurine Nelson met while attending Elim Lutheran Church. He married Maurine on July 9, 1983 in Ogden.
Kelly was the original owner of the Gray Moose Pub, bringing to Ogden a fun place to play darts, enjoy a pint and listen to great music. After selling the business he began a new career setting tile for New Generation Tile where his mentor Renato Miconi turned him into a master tile setter. Kelly has enjoyed cooking with wine pairings, bird watching, all kinds of music and traveling. Model railroading was his passion and he greatly enjoyed the friendships he had because of this hobby.
Kelly is survived by his wife of South Ogden; one brother Gil (Donna) Newton; nine nieces and nephews, Jon Christiansen, Claire (Pete) Caldwell, Lauren (Curtis) Bryne, Brian (Samantha) Hargrave, Christine Newton and Megan Newton, all of Ogden; two sisters-in-law Cathay Christiansen of South Ogden and Linda S. Nelson of New York. He is preceded in death by both parents.
The family would like to say with humble and deep gratitude “Thank You” to the entire team of talented medical personnel at the McKay-Dee Hospital Intensive Care Unit who work tirelessly to save Kelly’s life.

A celebration of his life will be held Friday, September 19, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Eccles Community Arts Center, 2580 Jefferson Avenue, Ogden, UT. 84401. Hawaiian Shirts and ball caps are highly recommended.
Arrangements under the direction of Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836-36th Street, Ogden, UT.

Kelly was the best person to work for, He was always so understanding no matter what was going on. We had such a great time at the Moose and so many of them, I think of those days and Kelly often .Kelly had a way of making every one feel welcome at his bar,, he is the reason it was such a fun place to be. I dearly value our friendship and will never forget.. RIP Coach

Maurine: My sincerest condolences to you. We shared so many activities when we were younger. I'm sure I'll reflect on many of them over the next few weeks. Kelly had the ability to put a smile on my face and in many instances outright laughter. He will be missed. Rick

We in Minnesota, are all very sorry about Kelly's passing. We remember spending time every summer with he and Gil at his Grandmother Martha and Grandfather Gilly's cabin on Lake Vermilion. He and Gil were so cute!! You are always welcome to come visit us in Minnesota.

Greener, I am so very sorry to hear of Kelly's passing. Kelly was an inspiration to me for how not to take yourself to seriously. Many fond memories of Kelly and his gang "4 wheel'n" in places no one would have dreamed possible, with Kelly's explitive's every other word as he lead the way. And in resent years he was a favorite for Tara's and I's "Drunk Calling", always happy to hear from us and inviting us to stay with you guys on any Ogden visit, Oh how I wish I would have! I will miss him dearly!

Gosh darn, Kelly, you left way too soon. Thanks for all the laughs we had at Weber State back in the day, in the UB. You were always someone special, and darn it, now you are enjoying that everlasting life. Thanks for the memories. Da Weasel and Der Groundhog will miss knowing you are no longer here but when the stars come out, we will know you by the twinkling light. Rest in peace, my friend.
