LaRue Nowland Whiteley

February 9, 1923 - November 13, 2011

LaRue Nowland Whiteley passed away peacefully on November 13, 2011. She was born on February 9, 1923 in North Garland, Utah to Seamer and Virginia Marriott Nowland. Seamer died tragically in 1925 while working in a gravel pit that caved in, leaving Virginia a heartbroken widow with a small child, so she and LaRue went to live with Virginia’s family. LaRue was raised in Garland and has wonderful memories of her childhood. Her aunts and uncles were like her brothers and sisters, and all were very happy. LaRue made friends wherever she went and has had many friends throughout her life. She moved to Ogden during World War II and went to work at the Ogden Arsenal. She then worked at Meadow Gold Dairy where she and Lawrence J. Whiteley met and fell in love. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 9, 1950. LaRue stayed at home to raise their children Cheryl, Lynn, and Renae, and then worked as a Tax Examiner at Internal Revenue Service. She earned many awards there and made even more life-long friends. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many auxiliaries. She was proud of her membership in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. LaRue loved to serve others. Her greatest joy was her family.Lawrence passed away on July 11, 1977. LaRue’s biggest regret was that Lawrence was not here to love and enjoy their grandchildren and great-grandchildren as she did. Many family parties and get-togethers were hosted by LaRue. In addition to all holidays in her home, every birthday and every Easter were celebrated with her entire family at their favorite restaurants. The last birthday dinner LaRue hosted was her own 85th birthday dinner at the Timbermine. LaRue lived the last four years at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living where she made even more friends and was very happy there. She expressed love and gratitude daily to those caring for her. The family would like to thank Mountain Ridge Assisted Living and Advocates Hospice for their tender care of LaRue. LaRue is survived by her children Cheryl (Del) Driscoll, Lynn (DeAnn) Whiteley, and Renae (Bob) McFarland, eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.Funeral Services will be held at Leavitt’s Mortuary 836 36th Street Ogden, UT 84403on Thursday, November 17th at 11:00am.Family will greet friends Wednesday November 16th from to 6:00 to 8:00pm and Thursday prior to service from 9:45 to 10:45am.Interment at Aultorest Memorial Park.
