Linda Leonardi Spiers

September 26, 1926 - August 20, 2016

In the comfort of her home, Linda Spiers passed away Saturday morning August 20th surrounded by the love of her family.

The shared process of her passing was her final gift.

Linda was defined by an original style, strong character and deep faith.  Every hug she gave said “Love You”.  Loyalty, determination, a sense of awe were among her gifts.  Watching sporting events with her “guys”, reading and loving her great grandchildren; long distance calls; water aerobics; surprise visits from her granddaughter and Sunday night suppers were her delight.

Her family recalls with great joy times spent together.  The pat of her hand, the undivided attention bestowed on them.  The encouragement and confidence she nurtured in all of their pursuits.

As a wife, mother, “grandma” and Nona; mother-in-law, aunt, sister, and friend, Linda changed the world around her bringing comfort, joy and thoughtfulness to any setting.

In this and her unconditional love, she will be most missed.

Linda was born in Hudson, Wyoming the daughter of Enricketta and Rudolph Leonardi Septemer 25, 1926.  She graduated in 1944 from Lander High School and moved to Ogden that same year.  She worked for the OUR & D Freight office.

In 1947 Linda met her sweetheart John Finley Spiers and they were united in marriage on May 31st of that year in Ogden.

Linda lovingly cared for her husband, three daughters and their families.

John preceded Linda in death on May 31, 2006.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and their wives, Eugene (Ruth) Leonardi and Aldo (Irene) Leonardi.  She is survived by and much loved by her daughters:  Carol (Rex) Cottle, Madeleine (Brad) Birch and Denise (Steven) Kelsey; one granddaughter, Kristen (Jason) Barton; five grandsons:  Rex Jr. (Sara) Cottle, Jason Birch, Kyle (Lori) Cottle, Brian (Lindsay) Birch, Brendan Kelsey; eight great-grandchildren:  Clara Jane, Rex Finley, Josie Anne, Samantha Lee, Max Westin, Thomas Bradley, Taylor Paige and Kaylin Royce.

Forever in her heart are nieces Loretta Gilbert and Ila Allan.  Survivors also include DeVear (Ardell) Spiers and many nieces and nephews.

The family expresses their sincere gratitude and heartfelt thanks to Dr. Cory Ferguson and the hospice team of IHC, Lisa, Sandra, Marcos and RaeLynn.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1100 E. 5550 S., South Ogden, UT.

Madeleine, I am so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I only met her a few times, but could tell she was a special person. I will never forget she made me a sandwich on the day I received my draft notice. My thoughts are with you.

Dear Carol, Madeleine and Denise, I'm so sorry to learn about your mother's passing. She was a wonderful person - so kind, caring and thoughtful whenever I was a guest at your home when we were growing up. Her priority was to make sure we always had a good time. Your mom and dad were special friends to my parents. Please know you are in my thoughts. Your childhood friend, Claudia Jardine McNair

Dear Linda's Family, I was so sorry to hear of Linda's passing. Especially sorry because I did not make that one last visit I had always planned on doing...ever since she came to my father's funeral just a couple of years ago. Our plan was to get together and talk about the family that she knew so well. Her mother and my grandmother were sisters and I'm sure Linda would have had some very interesting stories to tell. That generation was so brave and strong. But so was Linda. As I grew up in Ogen, I remember always thinking what a lovely woman Linda was...both inside and outside. She always showed such support and kindness to my Mom and Dad. I was always in awe of the loving relationship she and Johnny had too. They were a very special couple. And they brought in to the world three beautiful daughters who seemed to all be extensions of them both. I didn't know Linda well in recent years but seeing her at Dad's funeral, I felt like we had been friends forever. She was just that type of person. So very kind and generous. I know you will all miss her. She is a person who has left a part of herself behind in her family and in the many acts of kindness she has done throughout her life. We are all very fortunate to have known her. My deep condolences to you all. Fondly, your cousin, Diane
