Pearl Annette Galvez

August 18, 1944 - April 22, 2014

Pearl Annette Galvez was born August 18, 1944 in Alamosa, CO, to James Clander and Ada Janette Velasquez Galvez. She passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours on April 22, 2014 surrounded by her family after a valiant struggle with stomach cancer.

Pearl was the next to youngest of 14 children, and has an identical twin sister, Opal. They were extremely close and at times it was impossible to tell them apart. They would even switch places with the other, hard to believe but it’s true.

Pearl grew up in Sanford and later moved to La Jara and graduated from La Jara High School where she was class Salutatorian. After graduation she left for the big city of Ogden, UT where she attended Hollywood Beauty College on a full scholarship. She worked as a cosmetologist for 2 years at various salons before embarking on a career with the federal government. She was a Supply Clerk for the IRS for one year then spent the next 5 years at the Ogden Defense Depot as a Supply Clerk Tech 3. In 1972 she went to work for Hill Air Force Base as a Secretary and quickly progressed to an Inventory Mgmt Specialist Supervisor before retiring in 1997. In 1999 she went to work as a Seasonal for the Utah State Tax Commission, Processing Divison, and was hired full-time in 1999; she retired in 2010.

Pearl was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and recently took out her endowments in the Bountiful, UT Temple. She was a loving sister, aunt and special friend to many. Pearl is survived by her siblings: Jack (Mattie) Galvez (Clifton, CO); Grace Montaňo (Capulin, CO); Kenneth (Maxine) Galvez (La Jara, CO); Opal Burris (SLC, UT); Lazelle (Jan) Galvez (Spokane, WA); sister-in-law Polly Galvez (La Jara, CO) and brother-in-law Armando Ramos (Alamosa, CA). Pearl was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Pablo, James, Shirley Belle, Johnny and Howard Galvez, Barbara (Jose Buffalo) Martinez, Pauline Ramos, Marie (Tobias) Montoya and brother in-law Paul Montaňo. Pearl also leaves behind her dear friend and companion of over 30 years Dee Martin, and many nieces and nephews all of whom were very special to her.

There will never be another Pearl, she was truly a gem to all who know and love her. We will miss her deeply.

Our deepest sympathies to the families of both Pearl and Pauline. My sister Carla and I were very good friends with Pauline and just heard of her passing. We first met Pearl and Opal in the early 60's when we palled around with Pauline but we all went our separate ways after high school. Carla did get to see the twins when she accompanied Brenda to visit Pauline several years ago and did say they were still very, very nice. We are so sorry for your loss and have you in our prayers. God Bless!

Dear Pearl's family, I am so sorry for your loss. Pearl was my supervisor at Hill many years ago. She was such a sweet and kind lady. She was always so good to me and gave me encouragement even when I wasn't always the best employee. Although she will be missed, I hope you find solace knowing she is finally at peace and in a much better place.

Aunt Pearl was one of the sweetest, most generous people I knew. She always had a smile on her face. She and Opal and Ada and I shared a special bond because we were twins. We always looked forward to spending time with Pearl and Opal because we knew it was going to be a great time. I will miss her so much and will cherish all the memories. Love you lots Aunt Pearl.

Dear Aunt Pearl, you were a diamond in the rough. But every time I look in the sky your brightness will carry on in the stars in heaven. Still shining with love like how you lived your life. Dear dear Pearl, God is hugging you tightly in his arms. And while you're up there, give my mom a big hug for all of us. You will truly be missed. We love you so much. Love, Arthur, Betty, Kathleen, Tony, Freddy and family.

I worked with Pearl over 25 years ago. We celebrated her promotions. She was a jewel to us who worked in the same group. She is a very special lady and now she will be in a better place with no more pain. Love ya always.

I didn't know. I am so sorry. My husband and I were just discussing how we hadn't seen Pearl for a while. We always ran into her at Hi Hat or Dees. Pearl was a true angel and I and my children loved her greatly. She was there for me when I was learning how to be a supervisor at Hill and when I went thru a painful divorce. She called my oldest daughter her little Doris Day and all three of my daughters referred to her at the Monkey Lady because of her many stuffed Monkeys she always let them play with. Although it has been many years they and I have never forgotten. Rest in Peace, Pearl. May God Bless you and everyone you have left to mourn you in this life.

There are no words when it comes to describing our Pearl. She was such a special lady. She has been with me all of my life and I will forever remember her beautiful smile, and her sweet disposition. She was a blessing from God, a positive part of my life, a wonderful mentor, a strong and gracious inspiration, a caring and loving Aunt. She made me feel special and I thank God from the bottom of my heart for allowing such a beautiful soul to be a part of my life. Always and forever Aunt Pearl, I love you!

Hi Pearl, You will always glow in our hearts.

I haven't the words to adequately describe Pearl's impact on my life, it goes far deeper than language can convey. Still I will try, Pearl and Opal have always been two of my most very favorite people of my entire life. Pearl was always someone to love you completely and non-judgmental, to accept you with open arms and a larger than life smile. When it comes to unconditional love her and Opal are as close to Jesus's love as a mortal can be. It was a joy to be near Pearl and an honor to be loved by her. My heart is broken and none of our lives will be as whole without her to share them with. I am comforted to know she is no longer in pain, we now have another angle looking over all of us. Listen closely; to the wind when it's quiet and your alone and you might just her the whisper of her laughter.
