Refugio F. Sandoval

August 31, 1932 - November 14, 2013

Refugio F. Sandoval passed away in her home November 14, 2013 at the age of 81. She was born August 31, 1932 to Eugenio and Rosalia Arrellano in Chamisal, New Mexico.
Rufie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother with an insatiable sweet tooth. She was never happier than when she had a houseful of family to cook for. Many lifelong friends were made while she worked as a pastry chef at St. Benedicts Hospital where she retired after 31 years of service. Many weekends were spent on trips to Wendover with friends and family.
She married the love of her life, Filadelfio Sandoval on November 23, 1950 in Penasco, New Mexico and was able to spend 63 years with him. Together they were blessed with five children Floyda (Kenny) Martinez, Fabiola (Geno) Prieto, Virginia Sandoval (Alex Gamon), Merle (Pat) Sandoval, and Daniel (Brenda) Martinez. She was able to enjoy time with her 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters: Gertrude, Eugenio Jr., Severo, and Suzie. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Nelson, Benita, and Solomon.
The family would like to thank CNS Hospice for their care: Jessica, Tanya, Amber, Mary Lou, Leah, Julie, and Dr. Qadar.
There will be a viewing for family and friends at Leavitt’s Mortuary 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah on Sunday, November 17, 2013 from 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 18, 2013 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church; 880 28th St., Ogden, Utah where friends may call prior to the service from 10-10:45 a.m.
Interment will be at Leavitt’s Aultorest Memorial Park.

To the Sandoval Family...I grew up with Merle as a close friend. I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. She was truly a great person!! The entire Sandoval family have always been so very nice and pleasant to be with. Merle, his sisters and mom & dad had always treated me like family. I remember your mothers excellent cooking and her motherly kindness to me when I was visiting from Pingree Elementary school to hand out with Merle. Again, my condolences to the Sandoval family. Arthur (Arturo) Rodriguez

Rufie was one of the dearest members of our dietary department that I had the privilege to guide our staff. We worked as a team with great respect and care for one another. For me it was a Director's delight to start the day and have Rufie's commitment to do an exceptional day's work. She gave of herself in every way possible. She had a charming sense of humor that was a terrific tension breaker when the demands on our service were high. She was honest, fair and willing, a true Christian who loved the Lord, her family and all of us privilege to know. My prayers for Phil, her loving children of all generations as I join them in thanking our Lord for the life of Rufie. Peace to all, Sister Stephanie

Please accept my sympathy on the passing of Rufie. I worked with her at the old St Benedict's Hospital and she was the best! She was very loving and kind and taught me some valuable life lessons. She will always be remembered with love and respect. May God wrap His arms around you all and comfort you in your sorrow. Love, Rhonda
