Richard Dauma

June 8, 1936 - May 21, 2014

Richard Edward Dauma passed away on May 21, 2014. He has been reunited with his wife, Joann.
Richard was born June 8, 1936 in Cheyenne, WY. He married his high school sweetheart shortly after graduating.
Richard started working for the Union Pacific in Cheyenne in 1954 until 1956 where he and the family relocated to Salt Lake City and then to Sunset, UT in 1959 where he continued to work for Union Pacific until 1964. In 1962 Richard began working for the US Postal Service until 1992 where he retired. In 1962 Richard enlisted in the Navy and became part of the Sea Bees Unit until 1984.
Richard was a member of the Unity Lodge #18 Free & Accepted Masons of Ogden, UT. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite of Utah where he received the Knight Commander Court of Honor. Richard also had an avid role with Shriners where he was a member of El Kalah Shriners and El Kalah Klunkers.
To Richard’s family he was known as Pops or Richie. Pops knew how to whip up some of the best pancakes in town; they were called “Pop-cakes”. These “Pop-cakes” were the size of hub caps and as dense as a pound cake. Although one was more than enough for one person, Pops always thought you needed more! His family remembers taking the “Ultimate Griswold” summer vacation in 1970, starting in Southern California and driving up the Pacific Coast Highway up to San Francisco.
Even though Richie was extremely hard-headed and stubborn, he cared deeply for his family.
The family would like to thank Crestwood Care Center, especially Carly as well as his doctors Dr. Balcombe and Dr. Tanvir for all their wonderful care.
He is survived by his children John (Elaine) Dauma, Janet (Tim) Cottrell, Jeff (Shelley) Dauma, and Julie (Paul) Miola; grandchildren Sanya, Jennifer, Brad, Falisha, Anne-Marie, and Ryan; four great-grandchildren Riley, Ryan, Evan, and Lorik; as well as sister Kay Messenger who resides in Cheyenne, WY.
Arrangements under the direction of Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836-36th St., Ogden, UT.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. However, I sure he is happy to be with your mom. I pray that your family will be able to be comforted and be at peace at this time. I have to agree that his pancakes were the best in the world. To John-my cell is 801-675-1328--give me a call sometime.

Richard & Joann were part of our lives for 40+ years. Joann as Secretary of the First United Methodist Church at 26th & Jefferson, Daughters of the Nile and Klinkers. Richard as a Brother Mason and Klunker. Yes he was hard-headed and stubborn but he was always a good and loyal friend and brother. On my visits with him at Crestwood I was always greeted with a cheerful smile and a glad hand. I always wondered how he endured his pain and suffering for so many years. He will be greatly missed!
