Ray Axel Kounalis

Roy Axel Kounalis died peacefully Thursday morning January 9, 2014 at Heritage Park Care Center.
Born in Salt Lake City Utah to Spiro Kounalis and Blenda Bergstrom Kounalis.
Roy attended school at Liberty Elementary, Bryant Jr. High, before graduating from East High School.
He married Sally Louise Carter June 27, 1961. They were later divorced. Together they had one son, Scot.
Roy served in the United States Air Force. He later attended weather and air traffic control school in Oklahoma.
He went on to become an air traffic controller with the F.A.A. He worked at LAX, SLC, Ogden Hinckley, Ely, Malad, and St. Croix U.S.V.I. before retiring from Cheyenne, Wyoming
Roy loved hunting, fishing and traveling with his son.
Roy was always active and on the go. Right to the end of his life.
Roy is survived by son, Scot Kounalis, Bridgette whom he referred to as daughter of mine, brother Byron and sister Katherine.
Preceded in death by father, Spiro, and mother, Blenda, sister Ellen and brothers John, Odis, Loyd, Ray his twin and George.
There will be an open house to celebrate Roy’s life at Scott and Bridgette’s home, 1962 N. 2950 W., Plain City, UT. January 25, 2014, 11 am – 3 pm, for relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Research, 225 N. Michian Ave. FL 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or American Cancer Research, 55 Broadway, Floor 1802, New York City, N.Y. 10001.
Cremation under the direction of Leavitt’s Mortuary.
