Helen F. Whitton Christensen

July 10, 1918 ~ December 22, 2018 (age 100)

Helen F. Whitton Christensen, 100, died December 22, 2018 in Farmington, Utah.

Helen was born July 10, 1918 in Perth, Western Australia to John Whitton and Annie Elizabeth Badelier.  Helen has happy memories of growing up with her siblings in a kind and loving home, going for “tramps in the bush,” and playing on the beaches of the Indian Ocean and the Swan River.

She worked as a secretary for four years before coming to the USA in July of 1940.  She loved the time she spent living in Seattle, where the climate reminded her of Perth and her secretarial skills continued to serve her well.  In 1942 she married Carmen Christensen in the Logan LDS Temple.  While he served overseas in World War II she lived in Hyrum and Logan, Utah.  After the war, they made their home in Ogden, where they raised their family.  Helen was a valued and respected employee at Hill Air Force Base for 14 years.

Helen is a dearly loved mother and grandmother.  Her eight children, 44 grandchildren, 110 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren honor her for her lasting influence for good in their lives.  She is a woman of great faith and a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.   She enjoyed serving in Primary and Relief Society and she especially loved the ten years she spent serving as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple.  Helen’s optimism, kindness, and pleasant personality throughout her life endeared her to all who knew her.

Of her one brother and six sisters, one sister, Eluned Stanton, is still living.  Helen is also survived by two sons and five daughters:  David and Ann Christensen, Dan and Mary Christensen, Annette and John Tyler, Kathleen Gardiner, Ruth Macfarlane, Susan and Bob Shockley, and Janet and Bill McFarlane.  Another daughter, Michelle, preceded her in death as did a grandson, Andrew Shockley, and a son-in-law, Tim Gardiner.

The family wishes to thank the kind staff at Country Care Assisted Living in Farmington, and Brighton Hospice for their gentle, loving care of Helen.

Services celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 12:00 noon at the North Ogden 20th Ward, 575 East 3100 North, North Ogden, UT.  Friends and family may visit from 10:30 – 11:30 am prior.
