James Seaton Bertelsen, 80, of Ogden, Utah, passed away with family by his side on October 27, 2018.
Jim was born in Price, Utah, on March 6, 1938 to James D. and May S. Bertelsen. Jim obtained degrees at Carbon College, (now CEU) and Utah State University. A gifted athlete, Jim played both football and basketball at the varsity level at CEU. He was also a member of Sigma Chi fraternity at Utah State, and it was there that he met the love of his life, Joan Bowden Bertelsen, who was an Alpha Chi Omega. Jim and Joan were married on April 9, 1960.
They have traveled extensively and enjoyed all that life has to offer. They had three sons - Mike (Sharon, children: Meagan and Dane), Steve (Mary, children: Jimmy (Amy), Gray and Katrina) and Eric (Anne, children: Adam and Eliza). Jim was extremely proud of all three boys, each of whom have excelled in different walks of life.
Following college, he joined Thiokol Corporation (now AKT) where he pursued a varied career spanning 36 years. His leadership and loyalty were an inspiration to those who knew him.
Jim enjoyed a wide and varied circle of friends. He stayed close with friends from high school and college throughout his life. He was an extremely loyal person and in later years was saddened as close friends began passing away. He mourned each loss and remembered all.
Jim remained active in sports and fitness throughout his life. He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends and family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Laura, and is survived by his wife, their children, all their grandchildren, and his sister Francis and his brother Bruce.
A memorial gathering will be held Friday, November 9, in Ogden at the Eccles Community Art Center, 2580 Jefferson Avenue, from 2:30 to 5:00.
