In the afternoon of November 2, 2018, we lost our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Doug Payne. Born November 18, 1947, to Herman and Valate Payne in Ogden, Utah.
Doug grew up in Santa Barbara, CA, served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and dedicated his life to serving in the gospel. He married Barbara Layton on November 5, 1970, in the Salt Lake temple and then moved to California and worked a variety of jobs until 1975 when he started his own business in California and continued to run his own business when he moved back to Ogden in 1980. He enjoyed being in the temple and served as a temple worker for 12 years. He enjoyed golfing, reading scriptures, listening to conference talks, and playing or watching tennis. Doug loved to play games with anyone that would play. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.
Doug is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Doug (Becky) Payne and Tiffanie (Chris) Lake; grandchildren, Christian, Hannah, Alexis, Felicia, Leena, and Annie; best friends, Steve and Sue Barrett; and siblings Ilene Critchfield, Dave (Ruayne) Payne, Joann Ross, Bart (Sherma) Payne, and Thom (Lisa) Payne.
