July 22, 2017, Debra J. De Groot was called home by her Father in Heaven leaving behind a body that betrayed her. Debby was born November 3, 1949, on a Navy base in Quonset Point, Rhode Island to Richard and Jeannine Pehrson. Shortly after her birth, they moved back to Brigham City, Utah to be with family. Debby moved all over while growing up. She attended 18 different schools before graduating from Washington High School in Los Alamitos, CA. Debby returned to Utah to attend Weber State College where she met her husband, Keith R. De Groot. They were married June 12, 1970, in the Salt Lake Temple by Spencer W. Kimball. They had just celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary. Together they had two children Stephanie and Brett. Debby worked for Weber State University for 30 years. She spent most of those years in the Cashiers Office, the Library Testing Center, and the Secretary to the Dean of Students. She retired in 2008. Debby was able to take college classes thru the years achieving her Associates degree in 1989. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many different callings. Her favorite was using her organization skills being the Ward Librarian. Debby was a proud member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She served in many positions in the Sandbur Camp and in the Weber Far South West Company. Debby is survived by her husband, Keith De Groot; daughter, Stephanie Lawrence (Ken); son, Brett De Groot; grandchildren Kylynn Saunders (Todd),Justin Lawrence (Chacelynn), Dillan De Groot; great grandson, Kaden Saunders; her mother, Jeannine Pehrson-Woodward (Len); her brother, Rick Pehrson (Trudy); and several nieces, nephews and cousins that will miss her. Debby was preceded in death by her father, Richard Pehrson; her mother and father-in-law, Dave and Helen DeGroot; aunt Olive Gittens; and nephew, Ryan Pehrson. Debby struggled with her health for the last eight years, being confined to a wheel chair and on oxygen. She is finally free to dance and do the things she wants to do. Our family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and CNAs at McKay Dee Hospital, Pineview Rehab, IHC Home Health Palliative Care & Hospice for all the love and care they gave Debby.
