Dorothy Johnson Carr passed away on Jan. 20, 2020 in Farmington, Utah, at the age of 91.
Dorothy was born on May 1, 1928, in Kemmerer, Wyoming to Minnie Mae Cranor and James Alvin Johnson. Dorothys father died when she was 18 months old, and she moved to Ogden, Utah with her mother and sister, Luella. During her childhood and teenage years, she lived in Ogden and Riverdale, mainly with her grandparents and her Aunt Ada due to the difficult circumstances of her widowed mother during the depression. She deeply loved those who raised her. She graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber College, where she met her husband, David Bruce Carr. They were married in the Logan Temple on July 31, 1947. She became a wonderful mother to four children. Davids career as a civil engineer took them to projects in Utah, Colorado, and California. She willingly supported him as they moved from place to place, even though it was sometimes difficult for her.
Dorothy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served children for many years in the Primary, and also had the joy of lovingly caring for over forty babies and toddlers as a foster mother. Dorothy and David served many years as ordinance workers in the Oakland and San Diego Temples and served a Family History mission in Salt Lake City. They found great joy in their service.
Dorothy had a love of gardening and nature. She tended her flowers with great care and they always grew bountifully. She took special delight in watching the hummingbirds that frequented her yard. She took a special interest in the pandas born at the San Diego zoo and watched their progress online. She was a great reader and was involved in reading books up to just a few days before her passing. She also enjoyed needlework and blessed the lives of her children and grandchildren with treasured items she crocheted.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her dear husband of 71 years, whom she missed intensely. She is survived by four children, Bruce (Kimberly) Carr, Kathleen (Richard) Clemons, Luann (Harvey) Higgs, and Sharon (Dean) Hatch; 16 grandchildren, Jason (Michelle) Carr, Heather (Mike) Wynn, Kimberly (Eric) Tolman, David (Heather) Clemons, Kevin Clemons, Kary (Geof) Bell, Bella Clemons, Katie (Brian) Vander-Heyden, Melissa (Marshall) Thompson, Chad (Christine) Higgs, Charity Clark, Christopher (Magaly) Hatch, Chelsey (Shawn) Blanch, Cameron Hatch, Carly (Nick) Horton, Cory Hatch; and 31 great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.
