Helena Johanna Demoor, 95, passed away September 17, 2016. She was born October 8, 1920 to Marinus G. and Geertruida de Jong Althof in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. Helena attended a trade school to become a seamstress. She married Eddie H. Demoor in The Netherlands on November 2, 1945. Helena had eight brothers and sisters. She immigrated to the United States on June 2, 1954. Traveling by steam ship, she, her husband, Eddie and their two sons arrived in Hoboken, New Jersey. They traveled by train from New York to Chicago finally arriving in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her daughter, Evelyn was born the following January. Helena was an accomplished seamstress making outfits for the Ogden High Tigerettes and the Bonneville Lakettes. She sang soprano in the all city choir and at St. Josephs Catholic Church. Helenas hobbies included cross stitch, gardening, canning and playing the piano. Helena had a long time friendship with Jackie Downs for over 50 years, she was always there to comfort her. Helena is survived by her sister, Joanne Vandenbelt; children, Andre (Teri) Demoor, Robb (Dixie) Demoor, Evelyn Christensen; grandchildren, Lance, Bobbi, Natalie, Shawn, Heidi, Melissa, Dallan, Keinan and seven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Demoor; long time companion, Harvey Hunt; brothers, George, Jon, Gerard and Eddie; sisters Maria, Emmy and Martha. A Viewing will be on Friday, September 23, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Leavitts Mortuary. Friends may visit with the family prior to services from 10:00 to 10:45 AM.
