"Grandpa Les" January 27, 1946 - March 17, 2015 Leslie Harding Gibbs, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on March 17, 2015, in Ogden Utah due to injuries sustained in an accidental fall. Les was born to Lenna Christensen and Harding Gibbs on January 27, 1946 in Shelly Idaho. He was raised in Basalt and graduated from Firth High School. Les proudly enlisted in the US Air Force and served in Vietnam. He was extremely proud to be an Air Force Veteran. After an honorable discharge he met Dixie Lee Bryner. They married on December 23, 1970. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Les was a dedicated provider for his family for the next 40 years. He worked for Utah Power & Light for 30 of those years. Les loved trains, photography, westerns, camping and bag piping with his family. As an avid Boy Scout leader he mentored his four sons to the rank of Eagle Scouts. In 2009 Les lost his beloved wife Dixie. Shortly after her death he met and fell in love with Edith VanVleet. They married on September 21, 2013 in Taylorsville Utah. Les served in many callings for the LDS church. Les was a devoted grandpa. His final years were spent magnifying his church callings and proudly doting over his grandchildren, children and loving wife Edith. He enjoyed many lunch dates with Edith since his retirement. Together he and Edith shared eight children, 21 grandchildren with the 22nd due on Dixies birthday in August and three great grandchildren. Les is survived by his wife Edith Gibbs, children: Michael (Cheri), Christian (Marina), Patrick, Paul (Becky) & Wendi Gibbs, Becca (Michael) Malone. Step children Drea(Luay) Alalawi and Kevin (Darlene) VanVleet. He is preceded in death by his wife Dixie, sister Schoene, his parents and his granddaughter Melynda. The family would like to offer a heartfelt thanks to the ICU medical staff at McKay-Dee hospital for their valiant efforts to save Les. Funeral services will be held Saturday March 21, 2015at 10:00 a.m. atLeavitts Mortuary836 36th St. Ogden, Utah. A viewing will be held at the mortuary on Friday, March 20th from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. and Saturday, prior to service from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. Interment will take place at Holladay Memorial Estates.
