Marie Courney's Obituary

Our lives will never be the same without you in it, but they are changed forever because you were. Caroline Marie Courney was born on May 24, 1933 to Phillip and Marguerite Manley in Chandler, Colorado. She grew up in Canon City, Colorado. Marie attended the DePaul School of Nursing in Pueblo, Colorado, received a Nursing Diploma and became a Registered Nurse. It was in Pueblo that she met her future husband, Robert. Robert and Marie were married on October 8, 1954. They lived in Pueblo where Marie worked at St. Mary Corwin Hospital and Robert worked as a civil engineer at the Pueblo Defense Depot. Robert was transferred to Hill AFB in 1960. He then accepted an assignment to Tachikawa AFB, Japan where the family lived for three years. After living in Japan, they moved back to Roy, Utah where they remained the rest of their lives. Marie worked at the old St. Benedicts Hospital on Polk Avenue for many years. In 1978, she went to work at Davis Hospital in Layton, Utah until she retired. She was the head nurse of the Intensive Care Unit and later worked as the Infection Control Nurse. She loved being a nurse and was admired by doctors, nurses, hospital staff, and especially patients. Marie was a devout Catholic and has been a member of St. Marys Parish since 1960. She enjoyed attending morning mass each day as well as Saturday evening mass. Through the years she made many dear friends who will miss her. She volunteered for many church activities with her favorite being cooking for church functions and funerals. With her husband Robert, she traveled to Rome twice and saw Pope John Paul II each time. Seeing the Pope and attending masses at the Vatican were the highlights of her trips. Marie loved to cook and made big Sunday dinners for her family each week. She was very proud of her rose garden. She loved watching Lawrence Welk and she loved being with her children and grandchildren. Marie is survived by her children Tom Courney, Roy, UT; Laura (Bill) Wilkinson, Ogden, UT; Carol Moody, Ogden, UT; Mary Courney, Layton, UT and Betty (Larry) Edwards, Eden, UT.
