Obituary

On Tuesday, December 29, 2015, we lost our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother from a sudden heart attack. Martin was born on November 17, 1949 in Ogden, Utah to Richard Lewis Smauldon and Tiny June Smauldon. Martin graduated from Ogden High School in 1968 where he lettered in track and field, was a Boys State Representative and participated in the advance placement classes where he especially enjoyed English and writing short stories. He was a Weber State College Wildcat, where he met and married his soul mate and best friend, Sharon K. Wilson on November 11, 1972. He worked at Utah Legal Aid Services, Hercules and Utah Power and Light for 26 years. Martins wit and sense of humor drew people to him and made him great fun to be around. He was well known on the campus of Weber State where he worked in the audio visual lab and assisted the professors in teaching the education majors on developing their audio and visual skills. He was an avid Utah Jazz Fan and crossword puzzle king. He enjoyed all types of music among his favorites were the Jones Ricky Lee Jones, Nora Jones and Quincy Jones. Martin loved spending time at the library researching articles on black cowboys as his grandfather was a rancher and cowboy in Snowflake, Arizona. He was very proud of his family history. He loved going with his wife Sharon antique shopping and became an enthusiastic antiquer collecting McCoy Vases, shaving mugs and straight-edge razors. Martin and Sharon like going for rides together, taking trips to Park City and Wendover. Martin spent countless hours watching television sports with his daughter Kelly and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events and dance recitals. He was so very proud of all of his family. Martin is survived by his loving wife Sharon K. Smauldon; daughter, Kelly Smauldon Mickles; grandchildren; Devin (Brittany) Mickles, Taylor (Dean) Aldous and Morgan Mickles; siblings, Gerald (Barbara) Smauldon (South Carolina), Charles (Pearl) Smauldon (Virginia), Evelyn (Herman) Owens (Mississippi), David (Betty) Smauldon (Utah), Mary Catherine Cobb (Washington), Sharon L.
