Mary Leavitt Austad's Obituary

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Mary Leavitt Austad, 96, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, July 6, 2013. She was born November 29, 1916, to LeRoy Leavitt and Ella Linderman in Ogden, Utah. Mary graduated from Ogden High School. She married Norman William Austad in the Logan Temple July 12, 1939. Mary was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints having served in numerous callings. She had a fervent faith in and love for the Lord Jesus Christ and found joy attending the temple. Mary worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a tax examiner and retired after 20 years. Mary loved people. She had a special pride and love for her dear husband and children, their spouses and their children. She took pride in her Leavitt heritage and always took special interest in her extended family. She was happiest when she was with family. Mary had a great gift and love of music. She could play anything on the piano or organ by ear. As a young girl working at the Egyptian Theater she would return to her home and delight family and friends with her own rendition of the latest movie scores. Mary loved her neighbors and friends who on birthdays or other special occasions were recipients of bouquets of lilacs, banana bread or other tasty treats. She had a special love for everyone and was greatly loved in return. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, parents, three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by a sister, Lois Brown, and brother, Thomas Leavitt. She is also survived by three sons and a daughter; Larry Norman (Candy) Austad, David William (Janice) Austad, Thomas Roy(Shawnee) Austad, and Sharon (Tony) Bagley; and 24 grandchildren, 98 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
