Patricia Crompton Priest, 83, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Frona Patricia Pat Crompton Priest, born October 8, 1929, passed away August 16, 2013. Pat is survived by her sister Shirley Morrow, brother Dale Crompton, four children Lee (Carol) Priest, Craig (Janice) Priest, Sheri (Dave) Simmons, and Bart (Marietta) Priest. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dwayne and Ellen Crompton, beloved husband Clifton Vae Priest, brother Robert Crompton, grandson Barry Priest, and great-granddaughter Farah Richardson. Born in Tremonton, Utah, Pat moved to Tenabo, Nevada when she was four. She had an interesting childhood growing up in a rural area, playing with horned toads in the desert and attending school in a one room school house. At the age of 14, at the recommendation of her teacher, the family moved back to Tremonton so Pat could continue her education at Bear River High, where she graduated early and received a full scholarship to attend Thomas Dee Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She met her future husband Clifton Vae Priest at her graduation from the nursing program in May, 1950. They were married on June 17, 1950 in Las Vegas, Nevada and their marriage was sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on January 26, 1953. After their marriage, Pat and Vae remained in the South Ogden, Utah area, but had many family vacations to the Bear Lake cabin that Vae built. As the matriarch of her family, Pat lived her life with a generous heart and kind spirit. She said her happiest memories were times spent with her babies, and there were many babies who were the recipient of her love, including 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Pats giving nature was also apparent in the charities she supported. With her ESA Alpha Tau sorority sisters, she spent many hours crocheting and making crafts to be donated and sold for the benefit of St. Jude Childrens Hospital. She also participated in the Christmas fashion show to benefit St. Judes, much to the delight of her granddaughters. She was an active member of the LDS Church. A voracious reader, Pat loved the written word and claimed it must come naturally, as she was a descendant of the man who created Websters Dictionary. Perhaps it was hereditary, because she has inspired her children and grandchildren to be readers and writers as well. But her real strength was her compassion and willingness to help others. As a nurse, Pat excelled at treating the physical problems of her patients, as well providing an uplifting presence. Pats memory will live on in the people whose lives she touched. Though we will miss her dearly, we are comforted in the knowledge that she had a wonderful life full of love and she is now at peace. Memorial Services will be held for Pat Thursday August 22, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah. A viewing will be held Wednesday 6-8 p.m. and family and friends may gather one hour prior to services. Inurnment will be held following the services at Washington Heights Memorial Park.
