Sonya Simpson Marshall, 79, passed away May 3, 2015 from complication of Alzheimers. She was born July 11, 1935 to F. Warren and Lucile Jones Simpson in San Jose, California. She married Gerald Francis Marshall on September 11, 1954 in Wellington, Nevada.
Sonya was raised on the pioneer family Desert Creek Ranch, located in Wellington, Nevada. She was an active cowgirl. She raised 4-H show calves. She attended Smith Valley High School and went to Nevada Girls State. In 1953, Sonya entered Miss Rodeo Ogden where she won the title. She attended Weber College. She loved horseback riding, swimming, fishing, and traveling. Sonya was also a volunteer juvenile probation officer, and a member of the Junior League of Ogden. She served many years on the Ogden Pioneer Days committee as well as many other civic activates.
Sonya is survived by her husband, Gerald Francis Marshall; daughters: Cherie Rhodes, Rena OConnell, Michelle Cinquino, Lorna Williamson, Monae Marshall Chandler; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews.
Sonya is preceded in death by her sister, Mary Fletcher and son, Gerald Francis Marshall, Jr.
Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 11:00 am at Lindquist Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, South Ogden, Utah.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be sent to the Alzheimers Association of Utah, 855 East 4800 South, Suite 100, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84107.
