Virgene Harding Heward's Obituary

Virgene Harding Heward, 92, died on Monday, December 7, 2015 of natural causes. She was born on February 13, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Morris and Edith Dunkley Harding. The family moved to Parco, Wyoming when she was a child. She graduated from Rawlins High School. Virgene married Charles Heward on March 17, 1947 in Evanston, Wyoming. She was an active member of Union Presbyterian Church, a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of PEO. After moving to Ogden, Utah in 1972 Virgene was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church, United Presbyterian Women, and Grace Circle. She was a charter member and first president of Chapter AA PEO and a member of Daughters of the Nile for many years. Virgene enjoyed sewing, reading, meeting her friends for coffee at the Newgate Mall, and she especially loved playing bridge. The members of her two bridge clubs were special to her, and she never missed an opportunity to spend an afternoon playing cards with them. Mom and Dad felt blessed to have had the opportunity to make many trips with the Shriners, most notably to England, Japan, Hong Kong and many places in the United States. Her favorite place was the Teton Mountains in Jackson Hole, and she enjoyed many visits there with family and friends. Above all, she loved her family. She was proud of her children, adored her grandchildren and cherished the time spent with her great-grandchildren. Virgene is survived by: daughter Brenda (Wes) Hiraoka, Ogden, sons Chuck (Barb), Eden, Robert (Sharon), Wisconsin, eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, brother Earl (Sherie), Iowa, and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one grandson. The family would like to thank the staff and her friends at Legacy House Assisted Living for their love, care, and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Hospital or First Presbyterian Church in her name.
