SSgt Abe Michael Vlaanderen, 28, passed away November 16, 2011, while serving in the Air Force at Osan Air Base, South Korea. He was born July 5, 1983, to Traci Lynn Vlaanderen and Rudy Romero in Ogden, Utah. He spent his early years in the Ogden area, then moved to Logandale, Nevada. Abe graduated from Moapa Valley High School in 2002.Abe joined the Air Force right out of high school and for the past nine years has served his country with pride, honor and dignity. Abe was assigned to the 607th Support Squadron and worked as a Quality Assurance Evaluator. He served two tours in Iraq and was serving his second tour in Korea. On July 1, 2011 he married Jazzel Yap in Seoul, South Korea. Abe loved having friends over and cooking for them. He was a master at the video game, Call of Duty. His friends say he was a reserved man who was hard to get to know, but when you got through the quiet exterior you found a fun, loyal and generous friend who would give you the shirt off his back. He loved camping, fishing, ATV riding, his dogs and his truck. Abe is survived by his wife, Jazzel; his parents; his grandmother, Kathy Vlaanderen; two sisters, Tiffany Klein and Kassidy Jacobson; one brother, Kagen Jacobson, and many aunts, uncles and cousins who loved and will miss him. Abe was preceded in death by his grandfather, William Vlaanderen, and his aunt, Lisa Christian. A Military Graveside service will be held at Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th Street, Ogden, on Monday, November 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the Military Service at Leavitts Mortuary.
