Afton Bowen Hyde, born July 14, 1927 in Malad, ID. to John David Bowen and Lillian Larsen, passed away at her home on May 8, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Shewas the youngest of four children.Afton grew up in Brigham City where she often talked of her wonderful, carefree childhood. She made many lifelong friendships that were formed in her early years in Brigham City that endured throughout her lifetime. She graduated from Box Elder HighSchool in 1945. Education was extremely important to her parents so Afton and her 3 siblings all graduated from college. She attended BYU and graduated with a degree inEnglish. After her college years, she was reunited with a high school sweetheart,Darwin Hyde. They were married on Sept. 18, 1951. Darwin had graduated from the University of Utah and had chosen to make the Army his career so began a life of muchtravel and adventure. Darwin passed away prematurely in July of 1993, leaving Aftona widow for 20 years. In this marriage they were blessed with 3 children. (Tom) LindseySchwartz, Rohnert Park, CA., Bennett, San Diego, CA., and (Glen) Mallory, MountainGreen, UT. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren. Afton was preceded in death by hersiblings, Fern Hodson, Atha Petty, and Don Bowen.Afton had a great love for her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren.She loved chocolate, cats, reading, chocolate, going to the operas in Logan, her manygood friends, chocolate, and always continuing her education. She was a faithfulmember of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings.Her favorite had to be teaching gospel doctrine, attending the temple, and going toeducation week with her friends.We would like to extend a special thanks to those who helped care for our mom inher final days.
