After a courageous battle with Parkinsons and Alzheimer's Disease, Sweet-Swingin Al has left us to find his next adventure. A perfect gentleman and the epitome of class, Alans gift for being completely present to those in his company allowed him to be loved by all who knew him, and he enjoyed many lifelong friends. He was an alumnus of Ogden High School (class of 61) and would proudly sing the fight song (substituting his own funny lyrics) to anyone who asked up until a few weeks ago. He had a great sense of humor and we will miss the way he cracked up at his own jokes and limericks. Alan went on to study at Weber State College and later worked at Ogden Iron Works. He worked for Jack B Parson for 38 years before retiring as their contract administrator. Alan loved everything about Ogden and was a true icon of this town where he was born. He loved the people, its history, Weber State University sports, and running/hiking/biking its trails. He especially loved skiing at Snowbasin with Vicki and friends like his good buddy, Nick Breeze. Alan loved golfing and socializing at The Ogden Golf and Country Club where he was a member for 50 years. Alan was very proud to be the only one man in the Club's 104-year history to be both the Club champion and the Club's President. Alan was a runner and completed the St George Marathon in 1989 & 1990 and numerous 5 & 10 Ks over the years. He enjoyed running with his family and raced in three Ogden Marathon relay teams with them. Alan had a passion for music and often shared that with family and friends. Alan met the love of his life and married Vicki Yates Egan on August 20, 2004, outside the Needles Lodge at Snowbasin. The couple was smitten with each other and were rarely apart to the very end. Alan had two beautiful daughters, Tara (Greg) Gilmore and Megan (Keith) Alexander from a previous marriage to Roxanne Rynders. Alan is also survived by his mother-in-law, Carol Yates; two step-children, Brandon (Stacie) Egan and Erin (Ryan) VanTassell; twelve grandchildren, Rhet (Ashley) Needham, Maggie Douglas, Tyler Alexander, Annie Alexander, Cameron Egan, Maxwell Egan, Jack Egan, Ellery Egan, Mia Vantassell, Bret Vantassell, Chad Vantassell and Jed Vantassell; and four great-grandchildren, Ciara, Brynlee, Ellerie, and Aspyn Needham. His parents, Harry Bingham Leishman and Alverta Gibson Leishman; and his brother, Keith Leishman, preceded him in death. His family would like to give special thanks to Alans lifelong friend, Dennis Gladwell, who went to great lengths in taking Alan golfing each week this last year until just three weeks ago. We have no doubt that you gave him back his life in those cherished moments of being on the links with you, Denny. We are also extremely grateful for the staff, residents and residents' families of Barrington Place Alzheimer's Special Care Center and to Nicole and co-workers of Comfort WoRx Hospice. The love and care you showed Alan while in this community was that of family. Thank you. Alan is a participant in the Gift of Life program at the University of Utah. A celebration of Alans life will be held for friends and family at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, UT on Monday, October 22, 2018, from 6:00 8:00 pm.
