Alfred Edward Willis
June 7, 1921 - February 8, 2014
Alfred Edward Willis, 92, passed away on February 08, 2014. He was born in Ogden, Utah on June 07, 1921, son of Ethel Laverne Ward and John Greenleaf Willis.
He married Marie Pfost, May 1956. Together they had four daughters. Later divorced, they remained friends and shared many wonderful memories. In April 1986 he married Minnie DeGroot. Minnie had three children. Combined they had 21 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren and were forever blessed by joining their families. Ed and Minnie cherished the company of good friends, neighbors, and family, and were always excited to share their laughter and a roaring game of Yahtzee!
Eds lifelong joy was people. It can truly be said that he never met a stranger. His love of sports always brought a smile. It was a treat to watch a game with him, he would always have so much fun! He was an avid tennis player in his youth. Later, a loyal fan of Weber State football and basketball, the Ogden As, and the Utah Jazz. He rarely missed a game and would eagerly give the latest stats on his favorite teams. Ed was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Serving in many capacities, he was honored to fulfill two missions for the church; as a young man to the Alberta Canada Mission, later with his wife Minnie, to the West Virginia Charleston Mission. As sweethearts, they loved serving in the Ogden Temple for many years. Ed retired from Hill Air Force Base after 32 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sister Billie and Brothers Ward and John, Marie, Minnie, and his Daughter Nancy. Surviving are three daughters, Karen Willis, Vicki (Doug) Friedli, Becky (Troy) Weeks, and Minnies children Diana (Bill) Fouyer, Nadine (Richard) Jensen, and Glenn (Becky) DeGroot.
The family would like to express their thanks to the loving staff of Stoney Brooke Assisted Living Center. For the sweet care and concern they gave Dad and for listening (and enjoying) his same one-liners for eight wonderful years!
In lieu of flowers, please remember Ed by donating to the charity of your choice, to pass along that magic smile!!
