Alice Deena King

Alice Deena King, age 70 of Ogden, Utah, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2019. She was born to the late Dee Gardner Roberts and Ruth Hitchcock Roberts on December 10, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

After graduating from West High School, she made her way to northern Idaho where she had countless adventures, including hitchhiking with a friend 700 miles to visit family in Utah. She spent much of her life outside of Salt Lake City but always felt a connection to the area because of deep family ties. While in northern Idaho she also met the love of her life, Cameron Geoffrey King. He put her on the back of his Harley-Davidson and took her back to his home province of Alberta, Canada, where they were married for several years before they welcomed their child into the world on October 27, 1981. Despite their love for each other, irreconcilable differences sent Deena and her one-year-old back to Salt Lake City into the solace of family. During this time she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater from the University of Utah.

Deena continued her gregarious ways, and in fact made another foray back to northern Idaho, much to the delight of her friends there, and this time with a 6-year old boy in tow. It was at this time that she joined the community of Alcoholics Anonymous, a group in which she found joy, and a purpose. She embodied this purposeful life, frequenting the rooms of A.A. and supporting and sponsoring countless people, inspiring them with her energy and service. She remained a stalwart member of this community for over 30 years until the day of her death. In fact, she was attending an A.A. event, surrounded by her people when she left us.

Deena is preceded in death by beloved sister Lisa Valdez.

She is survived by her son, Geoffrey King and his wife Emily. They blessed Deena with three grandchildren, Asher, Duncan and Ruth. She leaves two sisters, Pamela Heal and Sharlotte Wolf and her brothers-in-law Ted Heal and Michael Valdez. Her nieces and nephews include Kellie McCoy (Mike), Emily Boles (Matt), Deegan Wolf (Taylor), Michaela Valdez, KaDee Dorn (Kevin), Travis, Kyle, & Faith Valdez, Liv & Luke McCoy, Maya Wolf, Lila & Jack Boles, and Mikey Valdez.

Deena will be dearly missed and her life and memory will live on through her many friends and family.

Funeral services will be held at Leavitt’s Mortuary 836 36th Street in Ogden, UT on Saturday August 3rd at 2pm.

Deena will be missed. She was a real character (in the best sense). Condolences to her Family, particularly Jeff. She often talked about you and was proud of how you were doing. Greetings to Charlotte and Pam, if you see this. I knew you from high school times.
