Bountiful, Utah - Allan D. Van Dyke, our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2014, surrounded by family, and was once again reunited with his eternal companion, Goldie. Allan was born April 29, 1919, in Ogden, Utah, the son of Lawrence A. Van Dyke and Alice Dinsdale Van Dyke. He married Lois Beth Garner in October, 1939; they were later divorced. He married Goldie Hirschi in the Salt Lake Temple October 28, 1954, and they shared many great memories in their lives together. Dad was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and Mom served a stake mission for 18 months as extraction workers, followed by seven years of service in the Salt Lake Temple as ordinance workers. He served in various other church callings over the years. Dad served in World War II in the U.S. Army Artillery and as a Military Policeman, eventually serving in the Medical Corps in the Philippines and New Guinea. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Army of the United States in September of 1945. Dad attended Weber State College and BYU, graduating from BYU with a major in accounting and a minor in political science. He later obtained his teaching certificate and found his true passion in teaching children. Dad taught elementary school for many years in Bountiful, Farmington, and West Bountiful, becoming a master teacher who helped legions of youth develop into successful students, many of whom returned in later years to thank him. Dad and Mom loved ballroom dancing and won many awards and trophies for their skill. They also loved skiing, golfing, and traveling together to see the world. He is survived by his son, Stephen A. Van Dyke (Becky), daughter, Gloria Vance (David), 14 grandchildren, and 46 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Goldie Hirschi, his parents Lawrence and Alice Van Dyke, his brothers Lawrence and Herbert Van Dyke, a sister Ruth (Read), and great-grandsons Jared Vance and William Vance. Our family would like to thank the staffs at Welcome Home and Life Care Centers in Bountiful for all their compassionate care. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at 12:00 noon at the former location for the Bountiful 41st Ward, at 165 S. 1000 E., Bountiful, Utah. A viewing for family and all friends will be held earlier that morning from 10 - 11:45 A.M. at the same location. Interment will be at the Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park, at 836-36th Street, Ogden, Utah, following the funeral service.
