Allan Wynn Ridge, age 91, passed away April 22, 2016 in Provo, Utah. Allan was born, September 28, 1924 to Alfred and Amme Startup Ridge in Provo, Utah.
Allan graduated from Provo High School then attended BYU for a semester before he joined the army and was sent to Pamona College in California to be trained in Meteorology.
He brought his sweetheart Edna Mae Hedquist to California to marry before he was deployed in the South Pacific. They were married August 20, 1943. He served in the office of the Adjutant General during WWII until 1946. Allan & Edna Mae had five children.
He followed his fathers tutelage from Ridge Printing and started his own printing business called Community Press, printing school yearbooks and other books and publications. He piloted his own plane flying for business as well as pleasure. He was also an inventor and designed and manufactured his own camera and systems for his business. He loved camping and hiking in the mountains and the beauty of the solitude he found there. He made lifelong friends through his business, church, neighbors and his camping trips. He was a clever and accomplished man who was honest in his dealings, smart, generous, tender hearted, inventive, hardworking, articulate and had a great sense of humor.
Allan is survived by his wife Edna Mae; his children: Kaye Lynn (David) Peterson of Sacramento, California, Robin (Kathleen) Ridge of Idaho, Rosemary (Brent) of Shelley Idaho, Martha Ann Marty Hardy of American Fork, Utah and Andrea (Bryan) Shoell of Orem, Utah; three brothers, Alfred Jr., Donald and Raymond Ridge; 24 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
All of us loved him dearly. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, David, Royce and John Jack Ridge, and a great granddaughter Mary Louise Hardy.
The family is grateful to Cove Point Assisted Living and Hearts for Hospice for taking good care of dad.
Friends and family may join in a Celebration of Life Friday, April 29, 2016 at 12:00 noon at the 5th East Hall, 455 East 200 South, American Fork, Utah.
Private Nicheside Service and Military Honors will be at Camp Williams Cemetery, 17111 South 1700 West, Riverton, Utah.
Arrangements under the direction of Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah.
