Allan Vail Stanley5/8/1923 ~ 3/22/2011If you knew Allan well you can attest to the fact that he never could stay in one place very long. His 87 years with us was not long enough, yet we had the best times of our lives with him while here.Allan was born May 8, 1923 to Lilly E. Lowe and George C. Stanley of Ogden. After High School, he joined the Navy and served during WWII in the European Theater as a Radioman. After the war he married his sweetheart Maureen Giles from Morgan. He completed his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot and was in the heights of his glory when he was up in a plane soaring over the mountains and waterways that he loved so much. Boating and fishing were also huge passions and he spent time on the Board of Directors for the Ogden Pineview and Bear Lake Yacht Clubs where he and Maureen spent their summers and made many close friends. Christmas was his favorite Holiday and he always made certain the whole family came together if even for just a day. He was an avid hunter of deer, pheasant and dove and enjoyed these adventures the most while with his son. He also loved skiing and snowmobiling. He retired from Defense Depot Ogden after 39 years as a Technical Illustrator. He never attended a single art class, yet he could draw and paint the most beautiful outdoor pictures and humorous caricatures with perfect dimensions and color. He truly had a God given talent and after Maureens death in 1999 he often spent hours driving around Utah taking pictures of landscapes and old dilapidated buildings that he would then transform into an incredible piece of work on canvas. He leaves behind his daughter Vici (Max) Thompson, his son Kray (Carla) Stanley; 3 grandchildren, Mat (Amy) Thompson, Cody (Jen) Thompson, Melissa Stanley and one great grandchild McKenna Stanley. He also leaves behind his most precious friend, confidant and caregiver, Betty Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Conrad and 2 sisters, Devorah and Lavonne.
