Alyce Jorgensen Smith
January 24, 1915 - February 16, 2014
Alyce Jorgensen Smith, a wonderfully gracious lady, passed away February 16, 2014 in her home at the age of 99. She was born on January 24, 1915 in Preston, Idaho. Her parents, Peter and Elise Doormann Jorgensen, and five older siblings, immigrated from Denmark. She was the seventh of nine children in her family.
She attended Preston High School. Active in student government she was student body vice president.
She met her sweetheart, Norman Smith, at a dance in Preston she helped organize. She married Norm on December 2, 1933 in Pocatello, Idaho. Their vows were later solemnized in the L.D.S. Logan Temple. They raised two children, Lee and Susan.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially spending winters in San Diego. She was proud of her Danish heritage and later went with her family to Denmark to trace her family roots. She visited her parents home in Filskov, where she also spent the night in the Inn where her mother was the baker.
She went on a Caribbean cruise with her family at age 95.
Active in community service, she served as a hospital volunteer officer, PTA Presidents, President of the Child Culture Club, Rotarians, Primary and Relief Society Presidents, and in many other capacities.
She loved basketball games and was a longtime member of the Weber State Wildcat Club.
Her home is decorated with her art. She enjoyed bowling, golf, cooking, sewing, dancing, and playing pinochle.
She remained mentally sharp with great sense of humor. She was a remarkably good cook and was known for her chocolates. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Visits to Grandmas were loaded with laughs. She made everyone feel welcome and important with her smile, generosity, tenderness, and warmth.
Alyce is survived by her son, N. Lee Smith(Joan) and daughter Susan Smith-Nord. Also by her grandchildren Ann (Jeff) Jex, Michael (Jamie) Smith, Tim (Tiffany) Smith, Melanie (Michael) Bradly, Emily Smith, Kirk Nord, Scott (Sierra) Nord, Ryan (Brittany) Nord, and 23 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, father and mother, and eight brothers and sisters.
She has been greatly blessed with wonderful care from Encompass Hospice and the Visiting Angels.
Funeral services will the held Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 - 36th St., Ogden, UT. Family will meet together with friends from 9:45 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
Interment will be at Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 - 36th St., Ogden, UT.
