Obituary

Andie passed away July 31, 2024 in Salt Lake City, Utah and was born June 18, 1958, in Great Falls, Montana to John R. and Pauline Morris. She joined sister Joanna and brother Matthew at home. Her childhood was spent moving frequently when Dad would get stationed somewhere new. We went to Maryland and sister Lynette was born, then North Carolina and brother Mark joined the family. We then moved to England, Germany, Oklahoma, Upper Peninsula of Michigan, back to Germany then Dad retired, and we came to Utah. At this point Andie was in the 7th grade. We lived in Mountain Green where Andie made lifelong friends. She graduated from Morgan High School and attended Weber State University, graduating with honors with a double degree in social work and Gerontology with a minor in sociology. She received her master's degree in social work from the University of Utah and became a Licensed Clinical Social worker. Andie worked many jobs from babysitting to "Hardees" to Como Springs in the cafe, to cocktail waitress. She went to work for South Ogden City at the Police Department. She was a detective secretary, dispatcher, evidence custodian and office manager. Due to illness, she left that position and went to work at the public works Department. She was the office manager and created and wrote the city newsletter. She served as chairwoman and organizer for South Ogden Days to perfection! After 22 years with South Ogden, she "retired'. She served her country in the Navy reserves and is a Veteran. She served 6 months of active duty in Kosovo. Also, several short tours in Germany, New Orleans, and Haiti. She was A foster parent to 59 children and teenagers. She was the first single woman to take foster children in Utah at the Age of 21. Her first foster daughter was Ann age 12. They remained close and Ann was with Andie for her last few days. Gidget (Thomasa) was another foster daughter who came and spent time loving and caring for Andie in her final days. Many others called and sent texts and posted on social media to let her know the difference she made in their lives. 15 years ago, Andie traveled to Guatemala and brought home Olivia Madeline. No child was ever as beautiful or more loved! When Livie was 6 Andie went to China and brought home our precious Isaac Paul Henry, the sibling Liv had been praying for. He was 5, blind, and fabulous. We all fell in love with him. Olivia was finally a big sister and helped Andie take care of him. Andie has worked so hard to keep as much eyesight as she could for Isaac, even taking him to Canada for a surgery not available in the US all to make sure the small amount of sight he has, is not lost. Andie loved her Children and wanted them both to have a wonderful life. They traveled the world together; she loved showing them places we went to as children. They went to Guatemala and were planning a trip to China. Last summer she organized the trip which took us all to England to scatter mom's ashes. She went all over Europe with the children. She wanted to fight the cancer so she wouldn't have to leave them, but it had progressed too far. Andie spent the last 18 years working for the VA hospital in Salt Lake City. She loved "her" veterans and fought hard for each one of them she advocated for them right up until she died. She loved to ski and taught many nieces and nephews and financed that adventure. She loved California beaches and had Isaac and Olivia in surf lessons. She took them to Sea World (season passes) many times, to Disney, to Universal. Even as sick as she was feeling she didn't want them to miss their holiday, so they drove to San Francisco and then down the coast to San Diego. She insisted we went Sea World while She was at the VA Hospital in La Jolla. Andie loved fiercely, her children, her family, her friends. Strangers became friends standing in line at the Supermarket. She was loud, she was bossy, and she fought hard to fix things and people. She really never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand. She knew what you needed before You knew what you needed. She is survived by her children, Olivia and Isaac Morris. Her sisters, Joanna Spencer, Lynette Finnila (Eric) Sister-in-law Jean Marie, and Brother Mark Morris (Rebecca) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Matthew. Andie was an animal lover and met many beloved pets at the rainbow bridge. A celebration of life Tea Party will be held to honor Andie on Friday August 16, 2024, at Leavitt's Mortuary 836 36th street in Ogden, Utah from 5-8 pm. Our family would like to thank all those who came together to support and helped Andie in her final days. I'm sure she felt the love from you all. Her passion for helping others is by far unmatched and she will be dearly missed by many.
