Areta Beus Allen

Areta Matilda Beus Allen, age 85, passed away on March 9, 2021. She was born January 30, 1936, to Joseph Gibson Beus and Lola Hayes in Taylor, Utah. She married James Arthur Stevenson and had nine children, divorced and married Carl Erickson, (divorced), married Wendell (Wink) Byrd (divorced), and married Duane Allen (divorced). First and foremost, she was a mother who loved her children.  She loved to help things grow and loved little children.  She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and throughout her life, she served in many Primary and Relief Society callings and taught Seminary and Primary for her branch in her home in Huntington, Oregon. She was fiercely independent and hardworking; traits that she passed on to her children. Areta raised her children on the edge of town in Huntington, on a small homestead with a very large garden and chickens, cows, and horses. In addition to being a homemaker, she served on the School Board for several years and worked many jobs over the years including Librarian in the Huntington branch of the Baker County Library, cook at the Farewell Bend Restaurant, and eventually ran her own house cleaning business. She maintained friendships with clients for years after she retired from cleaning. Areta is survived by her children; James (Linda), Karen, Bert (Shirley), Susan (Cesar), Kent (Heather), Leora (Lance), Julie, and John (Cindy), 46 grandchildren, and 47 great-grandchildren.  Areta is preceded in death by her parents; Joseph Gibson Beus and Lola Beus, her brothers; Larry and Paul Beus, her son Duane Stevenson (survived by wife JC), and grandson Brad Olsen. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 13, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with a viewing from 1:00-1:45 p.m. at Leavitt’s Mortuary 836 36th Street Ogden, Utah.
