Arlene Ruoff Tensmeyer, 87, passed away on January 14, 2011, due to complications of pneumonia. She was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on October 18, 1923, the oldest child of Charles and Nan (Larsen) Ruoff. She attended BYU, Texas Christian and Weber State University, graduating with degrees in sociology and elementary education. She married Burt J. Tensmeyer in the Salt Lake Temple on February 9, 1951. They and their four children made their home in Ogden, Utah. She taught first grade at Riverdale Elementary for 22 years, and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints and served in many callings, particularly enjoying her callings as organist. She loved gardening, needlework, bird watching, traveling and spending time with her family. She was especially close to her sister Beverly.She is survived by her children, David (Gayle) of Layton, Mark (Julie) of Riverdale, Meredith of Ogden, and Ann (David) Christensen of Magna, 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and her sister Beverly Critchfield. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 59 years.At Arlenes request, there will not be a formal viewing or funeral. Family and close friends will gather at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2011, followed by a short service at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Aultorest Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church Humanitarian or Perpetual Education Funds.
