Our family lost our beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, Artemisa Sotomayor.

Artemisa Olivia Jimenez Sotomayor was born in Orizaba, Mexico in 1932. She was born of parents, Luisa Munoz Jimenez and Manuel Jimenez. She was one of 12 children. Artemisa spent the majority of her childhood in Cuidad Mendoza, Veracruz Mexico.
She obtained her nursing certificate after high school from the University of Veracruz in 1953 and worked as a nurse in facilities in Mexico.
In 1957, she decided to follow her two brothers, and migrated to the United States to the small farm community of Watsonville, California. It was there she met her husband of almost 60 years, Felipe Sotomayor and started her new life. They were married in 1958. Artemisa bore three children: Alfred Harvey Sotomayor, Arthur Manuel Sotomayor, and Phillip Edmond Sotomayor.
Artemisa was a vibrant and active woman. Her passions were her family, faith, gardening, sewing and cooking her delicious Mexican and Latin dishes. She was a homemaker for most of her life, caring for her husband of 60 years, her three sons, as well as her grandchildren. When she did work, it was serving others, as a nurses aide, as well as a teachers aide at Hyde Elementary School in Watsonville, California.
Aside from her family and children, she loved serving her God, Jehovah. She was a devout member of the Jehovahs Witnesses. She began to study her faith in 1964 with Ronald and Leona Smith. These two dear friends were very important influences in her life both spiritually and personally. Artemisa served her God and her faith up until the end of her beautiful life.
