Arvel Don Dean passed away on January 14, 2012, at home with his loving family surrounding him. Dad was born on October 7, 1922 in Evanston, Wyoming, to Arvel William and Abigail Vivian Anderson Dean.Arvel married his sweetheart Evelyn June West on February 20, 1945 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on July 12, 1945. They shared 67 years together. Dad served in the Army Aircorp during World War II in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. Dad worked as a Letter Carrier and supervisor for the post office, where he walked 18 miles a day. He retired in 1973. Arvel and Evelyn served in the Washington Spokane Mission. They loved the people so much, that when their mission was over they moved to Spokane to volunteer in the mission office and house sit for other couples going on missions. Dad loved being in the service of the Lord, enjoying 20 years serving as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple until it closed. Dad served on several Stake Missions and Bishoprics. Dad sang in several Barbershop Quartets for many years, loved to bowl and was on two bowling leagues on Mondays. Dad loved to be on the go. We often took Sunday rides and took many vacations as a family. When he was younger he took his sons pheasant and deer hunting. Dad is survived by his eternal companion Evelyn, children, Dennis (Cherrie) Dean, "Bibs" , Vivian Mcdonald, Janis (Colin) Kendell, Laurie (Dennis) Illum, Scott (Joyce) Dean, 19 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 2 more on the way, and one great-great grandchild due in February. He is also survived by his siblings, Loel (Kathy) Dean, Dixie (Roy) Parker, Shirley (Sid) Smith, Judy Thompson, Kent Dean and Robert Dean.Dad was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Grant, George, Steven and sister Marsha, brother-in-law Dallas, sister-in-law Roseann, Grandchildren Rick Illum, Heather Eck, and grandson-in-law Troy. Funeral Services for Arvel will be held Friday, January 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Roy 31st Ward Chapel, 3345 West 5200 South, Roy. Family will meet with friends Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and also one hour prior to services on Friday at the Church. Interment will follow at Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park.The family wishes to thank the members of the Roy 31st ward for their love and support of the family.
