Benjamin Jay Geiger, 36, died of a sudden heart attack on Saturday, July 14, 2018, while laboring in the majesty of Afton, WY. Even the coroner who handled his body reported to the family that anyone who knew Ben already knowsthat Bens body hummed with a powerful, loving energy that simply became too big for this beautiful world that Ben loved so much. He was a powerful, loving lion who was also a philosopher, a deep thinker, and feeler of nature and the souls of others. Born in Ogden, Utah, to Curt and Kamie Geiger, he grew up in Uintah, Utah at the mouth of Weber Canyon. From the moment he put his feet on this earth, you couldnt restrain, contain, or bridle Bens loving, fun soul. He simply had to be "out there", on a bike, on a soccer field, in the mountains, in a river, or standing on a frozen ridge by himself or, whenever possible, with friends ready to make that first turnbut only after pausing to embrace the beauty that surrounded him. He knew every ridge, rock and skiable face along the Wasatch. Ben graduated top in his class from Bonneville High School in 2000 and served as a student body officer. He was accepted to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, but his unbridled nature and love for labor, laborers and the mountains of home kept him here in the Ogden area. He and Zy Wood scrapped together the beginnings of what has become an incredible stone production company whose employees Ben loved deeply. He brought them into his family. In 2004, Ben (John Wayne, with a hint of tie-dye hippie) married the absolute love of his life, our sweet Heather Marvel (Audrey Hepburn, with a hint of home-town) from South Weber. She was the only perfect match for him, and they built a beautiful family that made everything better when they all walked through the door. Heather, and their children--Monroe (11) and Laird (9)built within Ben a love that will forever fill this world and the eternities. Skateparks, feet in the ocean, infinite Gondola rides, quiet moments, soccer games, tumbling meets, breathing in the largest and smallest wonders of naturethey did it all together. It cant be understated the powerful love in Ben and Heathers home that will continue to sustain them and countless others around them. There is also a family, wrapped around Bens family, and many of them have skis on their feet and packs on their back. At 12 years old, Gary Nate, Scott Leavitt, Tom Leavitt, Lynn Dickamore and Dale Miller took Ben into the wilds of Hells Canyon and introduced him to a world that Ben hiked to every chance he could. While there are countless names who shared a stash of powder with Ben, two cannot go unmentioned herePaul Wright and JT Robinson. These two are more than friends to Ben, they were part of his soul and carry with them Bens very special brand of energy. There are also souls on this earth who needed deep and meaningful help. They know who they are. While their names need not be mentioned here, they know that Ben gave generously of his soul and his resources to help them. The Geiger family knows many of you by namebut we are finding others who we didnt know. Ben loves you even now and is an angel for you as he was in this life. The Geiger brothers want to express our deep love for all those who shared our youth with Ben. You know who you all are. We lived a magical youth at Snowbasin, on bike ramps, building forts, playing soccer, and generally just creating a magnificent day playing in the dirt of the hills from the moment the sun rose until our parents hunted us all down and made us stop. We all had a grand experience---didnt we? Ben is survived by his wife Heather, his daughter Monroe, his son Laird, mother and father Curt and Kamie, brother Bob and Michelle (Friden) Geiger and four sons, brother Brad Geiger and son, brother Joe (Corcoran) and Monica and son, and loving extended family. A viewing will be held from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah 84403 on Saturday, July 21, 2018. On Sunday, July 22, 2018, at Huntsville Square, 237 S. 7400 E., Huntsville, Utah, 84317, we will have a short viewing from 5:45-6:45 pm with the funeral beginning at 7:00 pm. Plan to stay and visit, bring your blanket to enjoy the view of the mountains that Ben loved, and share stories celebrating our Loving Lion.
