Bettie died peacefully in her sleep on April 27, 2023, at the age of 92. Bettie was born in Meridian Mississippi to George Eli Little and Eula Lee White on February 5, 1931. She had five siblings: George Allen Little; Lavada (Peggy) Early (Bob); Joy Ann Ward (Steve); Jack Scruggs; and Jimmie Little.

She was married to James E. Berry in 1952 (later divorced) and was married to Bill Powell on July 3, 1954, in Mobile Alabama at Brookley AFB.  She and Bill were married for 64 years.  Bill passed away in 2017. Bettie and Bill are the proud parents of four children: Patricia Busath (Stan); Artie Powell (Julie); Joanne Kamppinen (Bill, deceased); and Dan Powell (Ann). Bettie is survived by her children, 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and her sister Joy Ward.

During WWII and the Korean Conflict, Bettie worked at Brookley AFB in aircraft assembly and maintenance.  She also sold cosmetics when the family lived in Cheyenne Wyoming. However, her main career was as a supervisor and manager for the Base Exchange at Hill AFB, Dugway Utah, and Phoenix Arizona. After retirement, Bettie continued to work retail at ZCMI and Weinstocks.

Bettie was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving, among other callings, as a teacher and extractor for many years. Her interests and talents included reading Church History and scriptures, sewing, cross-stitch, Japanese embroidery, and ceramics.

Funeral Services for Bettie will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Leavitt’s Mortuary; 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah, 84403 at 11:00 AM.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to one of Bettie’s favorite charities in her name: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org; or, LDS Charities, https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/serve/caring-for-those-in-need?lang=eng&cid=rdb_v_caring, or another charity of your choice.
