Obituary

Betty T. Kasting, 82, passed away Monday, May 23, 2011 at Peach Tree Assisted Living Center. She was born July 17, 1928 to Andrew and Ottillia Todeschi in Salt Lake City, Utah. Betty graduated from Ogden High School in 1945 an attended Weber State College. She married Larry Kasting on May 3, 1947 at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Ogden, Utah. On May 3, 2011 they celebrated their 64th Wedding anniversary. During World War II, she worked as the Director of the Travels Aid Society on 25th Street in Ogden. After the war, she became the secretary to the CEO for the Pillsbury Company in Ogden, Utah. When their son Kent was born she became a stay at home mother and did various volunteer activities. She was a Pink Lady for 30 years at St. Benedicts Hospital, accumulating over 3,000 volunteer hours. For many years both she and Larry were entertainers in the High Fever Follies, a fundraiser production for the hospital. There were few company presidents who could resist her charm and not be persuaded to buy an ad in their program. She was the Best Little Fundraiser Advocate there was. Betty was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was also a Charter Director of the Stewart Rehabilitation Center Womans Board. Betty enjoyed playing golf. She had the honor of holding the Womens Club Championship at Riverside Golf Course in the mid 1960s. She enjoyed many years of skiing at Snowbasin and various other resorts in the west. She and Larry were early members of the Mt. Ogden Ski Club in Ogden. Besides skiing, she and her husband, Larry were fortunate enough to Enjoy Life to its Fullest be that traveling to Europe, visiting relatives in Italy, rafting in Southern Utah or fishing in Alaska. She was preceded in death by her parents, and 1 brother, Bob Todeschi. She is survived by her husband, Larry and 2 children, Kent Kasting (Connie), Bozeman, Montana and Susan Cross (Tony), Pleasant View, Utah, 1 brother, Joe Todeschi (Carol), Denver, Colorado, sister-in-law, Bonnie Todeschi, Nampa, Idaho. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, Justin Kasting, Adam Hemmelgarn, Dr. Carey Hemmelgarn and 1 great grandson. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the various agencies that cared for Betty. Thank you to Peach Tree Assisted Living Center, their aids and nurses being so loving and patient with Betty. Also, thank you to Life Path and Applegate Hospices for the quality of care they gave to Betty and her family. A special thanks to Sue Mullikin for her friendship and compassion she gave to Larry and Susan in the early stages of Bettys decline. Mom, by your example, you taught kindness, strength, and spirituality to your children. Your job is done and we thank you for BEING YOU!The family will meet friends on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah from 6-8 p.m. with Holy Rosary at 8:00 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 247 24th Street, Ogden. Graveside services will be held at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah immediately following mass. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Bettys name to the St. Benedicts Foundation, 6000 South 1075 East, Ogden, Utah, 84405-4945.
