Obituary

Brenda Margaret Powell, cherished wife, mother, nana, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025, in Plain City, Utah. Born on July 6, 1970, in Ogden, Utah, to Margaret Ilene Bright and Walt C Bright Jr. She took a path of service early on, graduating from Bonneville High School in 1988. Brenda's desire to help others led her to a fulfilling career as an EMT with Ace Ambulance, where she served her community faithfully from June 1988 to October 2002.

Brenda's life was woven with both joy and sorrow. She welcomed her daughter Barbara on June 12, 1989, who would grow to be a source of immense pride. Brenda's heart expanded further with the birth of her son, Justin Scott Hanson, on June 29, 1999. Though his time on earth was brief, passing on July 13, 2002, Justin's spirit remained a guiding light in Brenda's life. The loss of her son was a profound sorrow, and in the wake of this tragedy, Brenda and her former husband, Scott Hanson, parted ways.

Despite life's trials, Brenda's resilience and capacity for love never faltered. In January of 2006, she opened her home and heart, embarking on a journey of foster care for the state of Utah. Her nurturing presence impacted many girls, offering them a haven and hope for the future. The year 2007 marked a new chapter for Brenda as she married her eternal husband, Kent Powell, on March 3. Together, they adopted their daughter Annie Powell in December 2012, expanding their family with love and joy.

Brenda's life was further enriched by the role she cherished above all—being a grandmother. In August 2013, she embraced the title of Nana with the birth of her first grandbaby, and over the years, her family grew to include 17 beloved grandchildren. Brenda's love for her grandchildren knew no bounds, and she considered being a Nana her greatest joy and privilege.

Brenda's unwavering spirit is carried on through her devoted husband, Kent Powell, her loving daughters, Barbara Martinez (Rodrigo) and Annie Powell (Daniel), three stepdaughters, her brothers Walt Bright (Kristen) and Robert Bright (Linda), and her sister Bonnie Henry (Michael). Her legacy also lives on through her 17 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and the extended family of the medical service community she was part of for many years.

Preceding her in death were her beloved parents, Margaret Ilene Bright and Walt C Bright Jr., and her cherished son, Justin Scott Hanson.

As we bid farewell to Brenda Margaret Powell, we remember a life lived with love. Brenda's journey on earth has ended, but the memories she created will forever hold a place in the hearts of those she touched. Her light, though no longer present in this world, will shine on through the lives of her family and the countless individuals she helped along the way.
